Rising WRUP, Back on The Streets

Hey gang its another Weekend!

WOOT! Let's see what the crew will be up too!

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): Grey has gone fishing.  Regular service resumes on 22 may, 2016.
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Getting into Duelyst a good bit. I'll probably stick with till Overwatch comes out.
  • Hamilton: Bit the bullet and bought far harbor for fallout 4.
  • ScrooLoose: Still playing Dark Souls 3 and Doom. Trying to solve issues with Doom and OBS so I can get a live stream going there some time soon. Looking at New game ++ in Dark Souls soon-ish as well.
  • Dante: I'll be playing Shank to complete my #5dM..
  • Andrew: Shock Troopers and Tomb Raider. Also, right now my son is into Earthworm Jim for some reason so I will probably help him play some of that.

100% WRUP, from concentrate

Hey Guys!

Sooooo, what’s everyone playing over the weekend?

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): simon the sorcerer is now underway.  i have...mixed feelings about that game.  most of them are tied to how adult it's going to be.  i remember it being...a little humorous in a pretty british way, but that memory is from twenty+ years ago.  i'm also digging into spellweaver, which is one game i'm trying out to scratch my ccg itch since i'm no longer playing hearthstone.  i love the card art.  it feels a lot like magic, though, so...i dunno?  finally, the king's quests are proceeding apace!  i got a /lot/ done this week after neglecting it for a while, and now i feel like i'm about half way through the game.  i'm past the worst part, too.  so that's good :)
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Gnna be dipping into some more Rocksmith this weekend. As well as play around with Unreal Engine 4 a bit more. I also got into the Closed Beta for Paladins so maybe I'll check that out too.
  • Hamilton: Still dealing with my withdrawl from Overwatch so I might try some more Stellaris or bite the bullet and get Doom
  • Scroo: Well I'm still playing Dark Souls 3 because I can't tear myself away from it. Making more videos and overall just still having fun. I also started Doom and I really like the campaign game play so far. I wanted to record that as well from the beginning as a sort of "see it how I'm seeing it" reaction type thing, but OBS won't capture it, sadly. So I'll probably do a quick written first impression article. Anyway, it's fun, seems a bit slower paced at first but it only tends to be that way in between the hordes of demons.
  • Dante: I think I'll play the Stanley Parable this weekend. Hearthstone dailies too.
  • Andrew: Being that today is Friday the 13th and all I will probably play some Mortal Kombat X (as a certain machete-wielding horror icon). After that, Doom.

… WRUP…

...

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): allllllll the king's quests! well, really just king's quest 6, but i'm trying to play a bit more of that after i've been neglecting it for weeks at a time.  gateway is done.  spore is done.  i need to figure out games to replace those.
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Overwatch o.0
  • Thomas (Twitter): I’ve tried Overwatch… now I want to play more of it. Also: Pocket Card Jockey on the 3DS is great. Solitaire mixed with a horse racing sim from the peeps at GameFreak (Pokemon).
  • Scroo: Seeing Civil War this weekend. Also still rolling in Dark Souls 3. Finally finished my to-do list of preparing for new game plus, so gonna get that started. Hopefully I'll toss up some more videos on the LP channel as that progresses.
  • Dante: I've been playing Table Top Racing since it was given away as a PS+ title. I'll play that one and maybe the Overwatch beta too.

Saturday Evening WRUP

Time for another question, since it worked so well last time.

If the PS4 – Neo is really a thing, will you trade your old PS4 for a new one? And if so, why?

What is everyone playing over the weekend:

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): hearthstone!  last gvg pack before gvg goes away!  [and before i bail out of hearthstone!  bad blizzard, no biscuit.]  also, wow!  i'm going to spend my last ever time card on trying to bulldoze my way to sixty so i can close that chapter of my life for good.  i'm nearing the end of gateway and spore, so those games will have to rotate to something else, and, finally, more king's quest 6 silliness!
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Well no betas for me this weekend. So comfort gaming it is! Hello Marvel Heroes, Dota2, and/or Dirty Bomb.
  • Thomas (Twitter): Played a ton of FIFA 16, since it recently joined the EA Access Vault and probably some more (new) Ratchet & Clank, which is just great, even if you’ve recently played the original release.
  • Andrew (12/12 Games): Finally picked up Mad Max (on sale). Will probably give that a try. Otherwise, will probably be playing more Skyrim.

Saturday Morning WRUP

Hola, short WRUP coming in:

Imagine PS1 games would get released on the PS4, would you want them upscaled to 1080p, original quality, with a fake CRT filter, or…?

What’s everyone playing over the weekend?

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): i've given up on magic:  the gathering.  the new patch just went too far and knew too much and those are his lines and it's broken.  good lord.  hearthstone dailies!  king's quest 6 is now moving at a fair clip!  i might finish gateway this week [optimism for great justice!] and i'm messing around in the civilization stage in spore.  the wow project fell over this week, because my internet was being abysmal.
  • Scrooloose: Dark Souls 3 has a firm grip on me, but I'll probably jump in for more Marvel Heroes as well. The Doom open beta is this weekend too, and I'm torn on deciding to play it or not. I want to pretty badly, but I also want it to be a new experience when it's released... What to do... Probably just play more Dark Souls :D
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Welp. I've installed Overwatch, Doom, and BattleBorn. Hopefully I get a chance to try out all three lol
  • John: Sunset Overdrive
  • Thomas (Twitter): Ich hab nen Job, trotzdem Langeweile. Hät’ Bock auf Kiffen, Saufen, Feiern. So ist das hier, yap. Tag ein, Tag aus, halt mir zwei Finger an den Kopf und mach peng peng peng
  • Andrew (12/12 Games): Possibly Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, probably more Skyrim.
  • Dante: I've been playing One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 and Infamous First Light. That's what I'll play this weekend.

No WRUP today

No WRUP today, Dr. S has gone away

The site stands forlorn, not a symbol but a yawn

No WRUP today, it’s not a common sight

But John made me sad, I wish that I was dead

How could he know just how much pressure is on me

He wrote such a great WRUP, something about meme

You probably realized, this didn’t even rhyme

But it’s not like I get paid a dime

No WRUP today, I better give up now

I don’t feel inspired and there is a twitch in my brow

Should I maybe quit doing this altogether

It’s not like I was super active recently

Depression is clearly not a tether

As proven by me.

ah, fuck it... what is everyone playing over the weekend?

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): now that i'm back:  hearthstone!  magic!  [they're releasing the new set for magic pretty soon] - king's quest 6!  in which i'll actually start playing the actual game!  and my secret shame.  well, ok.  it's not secret because i talk about it nearly every weekend:  gateway!  and of course, some world of warcraft leveling.  i'm at 40 now.  20 more levels to go.
  • Scrooloose: Still going strong in Marvel Heroes, man that's been fun. Also going to try out the Orcs Must Die: Unchained, open beta and see how it is. Loved those games.
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Well the Open Beta for BattleBorn will be around soon, so too brush up on my shooting skills (or lack thereof) I'm going to play another Hero Shooter that I like, Dirty Bomb! Maybe some more Marvel or Dota to mix it up as well.
  • Matthew: Maybe some Division but not much of anything, going to be doing a new PC build and then trying to get caught up on work.
  • John: Ain't nobody got time for that
  • Thomas (Twitter): Dick. No, not nothing. I will fiddle my diddle over the weekend. Glad I could share that with you.
  • Andrew (12/12 Games): Yoshi's Island and Twilight Princess
  • Dante: I have no idea what to play next. Never Alone was way too short. Perhaps I'll keep on playing Disgaea's endgame.

Dreaming dreams no WRUP ever dared to dream before.

3/25/2016

You’ll have to forgive this scrawling of mine but I find myself in a state of mental disrepair. Lord Thomas is nowhere to be found and my knowledge of his vast estate is hardly adequate to conduct a properly through search by lamplight. Not that I have any desire to further wander these halls without ample lighting or human company. The subtle flicker of my lantern is doing little to calm my nerves as her shadowy progeny wistfully sway about the walls. It’s hypnotic how alive these halls seem.

I only arrived here just a week ago. I had known Thomas from a chance meeting the previous year. We meet upon the sudden and tragic death of a mutual friend and have maintained somewhat steady correspondence ever since. I had been out of touch in the most recent months due to other personal pursuits but I had recently returned to the area and decided to pay Thomas a visit. While as courteous and gracious a host as he had ever been, something weighed heavily on Thomas’s mind but I knew not what until several hours ago. He had spoken briefly about business with a small island village to the East and made mention of a bizarre artifact that had been uncovered there. Thomas had attained this artifact and was keeping it here in his home. I found the object here upon his desk. In the very spot.

As the sun caressed the distant treetops and bathed the window of my small room in a warm glow, I couldn’t help but notice that Grey had not come by at his usual time. Grey, another mutual acquaintance of our deceased friend, had been helping Thomas about the manor and acted as a grounds keeper of sorts. Typically Grey would pass by my room and collect me on his way to the library where we would muse withThomas late into the night of days long past and our many adventures. He never came. I searched the house as best I could but things are strangely not as I remember them from my previous visits. It is as if the rooms had rearranged themselves. I must be tired to think this the case. Nevertheless, I don’t recall what drove me to take the object on Thomas’s desk with me into the library. I had simply slipped it into my pocket as I searched for him. The sun had set and all light from the sunset had left the hallways so I took his lamp as well.

As I explored the vast selection of books, I came across an oddity. The manuscript had no visible words on its binding and only one phrase repeated on every page “Not here, keep looking.” Thinking it some horrendous practical joke, I decided to play along and checked each page. One was different; “Here’s the place. NX.” I searched the stacks. Desperate and frantic but I found “NX”. I pulled binding and deafening mechanical clatter pierced the silence. Seconds later one of the rows slid free and exposed a steeply descending stone staircase. I collected Thomas’s lantern and my courage as I stepped inside. At that point all reason had left me. I was fueled by pure adrenaline as I stumbled deeper into the earth. What had Thomas found here?

A golden light greeted my fatigued eyes as I left the final stair. At the far end of this sizable cavern rested a small alter. I approached cautiously in part to fatigue from the descent. As I neared it became clear why Thomas desired the artifact. There on the slab was an indentation the exact shape of this trinket I had collected above. I carefully pulled the glittering oval from my pocket and placed it into the recess. It was a perfect fit but nothing had happened. I gazed into its surface and could nearly see my reflection. Suddenly an intense dread consumed my mind. I focused harder on the reflected image and recoiled in horror. That was not me in the reflection. I panicked, turned to the stairs, and ran. I left the artifact there in the recess. I have no idea what I may have done. I fell during my clambering and twisted my ankle. At least Thomas’s lantern is intact. I have nothing to defend myself should whatever it was I saw down there in the darkness decide to come looking for me. I can only pray that it was just my mind playing tricks on me but that’s enough about that. What are you playing this weekend?

  • Thomas (Twitter): Spending Easter with the family and my girl, so maybe some Pokemon Y on the train, but that's it.
  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): I'm not really here. I won't be playing all the things.
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Well, John's playing the game I wish I bought instead of Rise of The Tomb Raider, so I'll just play some Marvel Heroes instead!
  • Andrew (12/12 Games): This weekend, I think I'll introduce my son to my go-to Easter game, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. There also will likely be some Super Mario Maker. That game is all kinds of awesome!
  • Dante: I still have a lot of things to unpack and put away. I think I'll be able to play some Hearthstone and maybe I'll start with Never Alone.

WRUP LEAKS

Like every self-respecting outlet, we too got our hands on an exclusive Nintendo NX Controller prototype!nx controller

It’s called InkPad and the tech behind it is quite something. At first glance it looks like a book, but it is actually a journal! Which isn’t that different from a book. Actually it is a type of book, I guess. Anyway, the cool thing is: you can write in it. Wait, I know what you are thinking: “Of course I can write in it. It’s a fucking book, for fucks sake!” BUT look closely and you will see that our source at Nintendo (who is definitely not me, since I don’t work at Nintendo), who made this photo, drew something that looks like a controller on it. Yes, you can create your own button layouts on the controller. Isn’t that cool? The bundled version comes with two special wireless enabled smart-ink cartridges (the cable you see on the picture is because it’s still a prototype), each good for 4 buttons/sticks. Additional cartridge prices are yet to be determined, but our source tells us that it will be somewhere around $40, which is a bit cheaper than a PS4 controller and much cheaper than the similar Xbox One Elite controller. Optional rumble- and motion-ink is currently in development, but will probably not be available at release.

It’s probably not exactly what we had expected after those patent pictures surfaced some time ago, but there is an uncanny similarity (mostly the black and white color-scheme of the unit, though you will also be able to buy InkPads with colored pages)

So, what do you think? Will this be enough to break Sony’s dominance? Would you like to see the other console manufacturers adopt this tech? Let us know in the comments.

Also, what is everyone playing over the weekend?

  • Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): more king's quest six.  i'll keep walking around and mostly be talking to people this week.  then, i'm going to actually try and get through more gateway as well as moving on in spore to the tribal stage.  i'm at level 40 in wow now and am dreading doing the next dungeon [i had a not-very-fun dire maul where the group abandoned me to die, repeatedly before just outright kicking me.  i dislike that fanbase so much, sometimes.] - apart from that?  more hearthstone and magic:  duels dailies.  i'm hoping that more cards in magic == more fun, but you know, given how shoddy that product is, i'm not going to hold my breath that this will be true or anything.
  • Thomas (Twitter): The dream returned
  • Scrooloose: I'll be hitting up more Marvel Heroes, that's been the most fun I've had in a free to play game since Path of Exile. Might throw down some more Hitman as well. And I also plan on starting Daredevil season 2. Good stuff happening this weekend.
  • Matthew (Twitter): This week I played more of The Division but this weekend sadly nothing helping my brother move so away from the computer and console until Sunday and then it's trying to get caught up on cleaning and house stuff. Have a great weekend all!
  • Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Well as much As I would like to finish Rise Of The Tomb Raider, I'd rather spend my time watching something good... So I'll be playing the Netflix binge this weekend to see what kind of Frank Castle we get out of Daredevil Season 2! With a few sprinkles of Marvel Heroes in there for good measue :)
  • Andrew (12/12 Games): Pokken Tournament and maybe some Super Mario Maker.
  • Dante: This weekend I'll play the move back to my old house game (We had a lot of work done on it). I'm not sure how long it's going to be until I have internet again. I hope it's not as long as it was back in August. In the meantime I think I'll give Rayman Legends a bit more of my time.
