AJ’s 4 In February: Cinque di Febbraio

Well, January's over which means its time for 4 in February again. I'm sure you all know the drill - - pick any 4 games you wish and complete them before the month is out. Simple, right? Well, not as simple as you might expect. I personally haven't been able to do it yet, in four attempts. And I doubt this fifth year will be much different.

I've still gotta try, though. Nobody likes a quitter, right? Anyway, this year being a leap year means I get a whole extra day in which to do it! Will it make the difference? Maybe. It all depends on the games. So let's take a look at what I'll be playing this year.

Greywolfe’s Four in February, 2020

Well.

It’s that time of year again.

Time to dash through four games on my giant backlog.

This year’s going to work a LITTLE differently, though.

I’m going to be STREAMING most of what I’m playing.

So let’s talk about that.

Scroo’s Completed #4if

Well...

...I thought I had picked the right set of games to fix this #4if's wagon. But it got the better of me anyway. In retrospect I should have probably played in a different order than I did. But you know, I still made great progress and three out of four is nothing to sneeze at. This year's challenge was, in all likelyhood, perfectly reasonable to complete. However with the release of Apex Legends at the beginning of the month... Well lets just say that I spent a lot more time in there than I should have in order to get a #4if win this year. Am I disappointed in myself? One word - No I'm not, I certainly feel like I did pretty well all things considered. I have a life after all! get off my back Gary!

Check out how I did below. Read more

Winter WRUP

Well, it's snowing heavily and it's cold, so I'm going to try and do this quickly before the power goes out.

#4if is coming long nicely for us. I've done 3 of my games now, and our team chat is busy with everyone's updates as well. I might just be able to finish this four in February if I can only stop playing Apex Legends for a few minutes to win a Dead Cells run.

Far Cry New Dawn is out and seems to actually be a good Far Cry game to my surprise. As well as Metro Exodus releasing on it's controversial Epic exclusive, one year timer. Still I'm seeing good things, even if the second real game to use RTX is using RTX rather poorly. I guess it comes down to personal preference when looking at using ray tracing. Fast frame rate and not quite as good lighting or, halved frame rate and some different lighting effects that are only really noticeable in certain situations. Ray tracing needs work but I still feel like eventually it'll make a real impact. Not worth it for me though, I didn't build a higher end system to run at 45FPS. Read more

AJ’s 4 In February: 4th In February

Once more, with feeling! It's time for another 4 in February. By now you probably know what that means (though you'd certainly be forgiven if you didn't) - the forswearing of all games, save a select 4, all of which must be completed entirely within the confines of the double-fortnight that is February. This being my 4th 4 in February, I feel like it may be the year that fortune finally smiles upon my attempt. True, that I cannot foresee whatever results may be in store for me, but perhaps I can forestall my typical lack of success this time around through sheer force of will and just a little extra effort. Failure is not a foregone conclusion! Oh, and perhaps I should mention the games I will be playing, before I forget. Read more

Scroo’s 4if

Last year I didn't play a #4if because I was a busy mofo and I just didn't have the time or motivation to play 4 games at one time during all of that. This year though, I'm not quite as busy of a mofo and I plan on putting up to four titles in thier place. It's a fun challenge that we, and many other outlets, do each year where we each pick some games from our backlog that need finishing and... finish them. We also usually summarize them after our completion whether we make it through all four or not. Now the key here is not necessarily to play four games from beginning to end, but it is to finish four games. Here are my choices this year.... Read more

WRUP In #4if

Good day to you sirs and madammes. February is a time where four games shall fall to the weary eyes of the dogged player. I speak of the #4 in February. It looks like most of us at Twinstiq will be participating in this most honored of traditions. We have trained hard for this day and wear the war paint of the 4. The rules are simple and thus: Finish 4 games in the backlog in the month of February. A daunting task if there ever was one, and to the winners go no spoils. Only pride and public admiration for the accomplishment. Read more

AJ’s 4 in February: 3rd Time’s the Charm?

Here we go again! It's now the second month of the year, which can mean only one thing: it's time for another round of..."4 IN FEBRUARY!!!" Last year marked my second consecutive year participating in #4iF and it was also my second year of failure. Will this year be different? Who knows? Who cares? For me, it's not so much about the finishing as it is the pure unadulterated fun of participating. So, what's on tap for AJ this year? Let's take a look!

Yoda’s #4iF Results

I am bad at video games. Plain and simple. So bad in fact, i can't get further than 15 minutes into Undertale without dying no matter what I do. I really want to like that game. But I've tried four times now to get into it, only to be so bad I couldn't get anywhere. So in a repeat of last year's results, I beat three games, then couldn't get through Undertale.

But just like the Academy Awards this year, there is a twist! I took a look through my game library to find the shortest game on there, and saw Q.U.B.E. a first person puzzle platformer. And what do you know, it was easy enough for me to beat! Making this an official Four in February success story! So'm going to give a quick run down of the four games I beat and my thoughts on them, enjoy. :)

The Yawg

Our housekeeper here at Twinstiq, Dr. S, actually gifted me this first title. And I owe you a big thanks good sir ;) because I love this game. There are so many possible outcomes and heartbreaking stories to discover here. The sheer number of ways you can change the world your characters reside in is impressive to say the least, and I can't recommend this enough.

Aragami

What a gorgeous game. And if you're not hardcore about your stealth games like me, I'm sure you'll find a lot to enjoy here. I never found much challenge throughout this game due to it being designed around a teleport mechanic. But the story alone is worth playing, as long as you don't mind reading.

Abzu

If i had to pick one game from my 4iF to suggest people go play, it's Abzu. Austin Wintory once again proves that he is John Williams of video game scores. Even if you could care less about that aspect, you are nearly guaranteed to find something in here to love. This is a game that everyone needs to play.

Q.U.B.E.

My White Knight of February 2017. Emerging from the depths of my growing back catalog of games was a fun and thought provoking little indy title that did not get as much attention as it deserves. This puzzle platformer really did find every use for a simple concept that it could without overstaying its welcome. I'm sure many have compared this to Portal unfavorably but I actually found its narrative to be a bit more compelling then Valve's similar game. Definitely a game worthy of much more lengthy discussion, perhaps on a future GameClub down the line.

Anyway, that's what I got done this past month! Thanks for reading guys!

Good night, and good game.

The never ending cycle of WRUP

What the fuck is wrong with the video game industry? I can somewhat deal with a packed Christmas release window by spacing things out, but now they start the year in January? Isn’t that against the spirit of 4iF? Yakuza 0 and Nioh are both amazing. Then there is For Honor, Halo Wars 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Resident Evil 7, Sniper Elite 4, NieR and Ghost Recon Wildlands? WHY, WHO, HOW? (Oh, and the new Zelda for people who care about that shit) Read more
