New Nintendo eShop Releases: River City Ransom

Fear not! The New Nintendo eShop Releases post is finally back from hiatus. I was regrettably unavailable that big day when Super Mario Maker dropped, but I had intended to jump right back in the week after. Unfortunately, what followed were two straight weeks of garbage releases. Yes, I'm talking to you, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer! Come back when you've "designed" a complete game!

Finally, this week I have something good to cover. Namely, River City Ransom. The legendary early '90s high school beat 'em up has come home to the Wii U NES Virtual Console. Also out this week, Pumped BMX, Toto Temple Deluxe, and the incredibly overrated Freedom Planet. "BARF!" Proceed further to see more of this week's new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Mario Golf (64)

Mario Golf (64) is now available for the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console! The first of the "modern" three-dimensional Mario Golf games, Mario Golf was also released over 12 years after the previous, NES entry (Nintendo never made a Mario Golf game for the Super Nintendo). Also out this week, the never-before-released outside of Japan, 2-player, Vs Excitebike, and an HD-upgraded Wii U combo-pack of two previously 3DS Western indie games. Fore! Proceed further to see this list of new releases.

Hide Your Phones! Pokémon Shuffle Mobile Is Now Available

Back in February Pokémon Shuffle was released for the 3DS and 2DS as part of Nintendo's free to play catalogue. It's a match three game in the same vein as Candy Crush, but with much less bothering other people over facebook. The game got a lot of criticism because of microtransactions and how you only have 5 hearts when you start and that they take 30 minutes to regenerate each.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Sin and Punishment (x2)

This week on the Nintendo eShop, you can treat yourself to a double scoop of Sin and Punishment. Both the excellent Nintendo 64 original and its Wii sequel are now available. The original is noteworthy for using English voice acting, despite never having been released outside of Asia (until it was later ported to the Virtual Console). It is also noteworthy for being totally rad. If you like well-made Japanesey shooters, you could do a lot worse.

Also out this week, a crazy platforming party game with a color-changing twist that also features guest characters from several high profile indie titles (Shovel Knight, Guacamelee, and Mutant Mudds, to name a few). Lock and load...and then proceed further to view this list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: 3D Gunstar Heroes

Gunstar Heroes, arguably one of the best run and gun shooter games of all time, has come to the 3DS today (and in 3D)! Known as the game that put Treasure on the map, Gunstar Heroes was not only great fun to play, it was also one of the more graphically impressive games to hit the Sega Genesis.

True to the original, this 3DS port even includes a greatly appreciated local co-op mode. If you want to check out an absolutely superb gaming classic, go pick this up without delay.

Also out this week, the similarly fantastic Advance Wars 2, a Level-5 action-RPG about battling mini robots, and indie art game, The Bridge. Find a treasure, then proceed further to see more of this week's new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Nintendo has dropped a pair of classic Game Boy Advance titles onto the Wii U Virtual Console this week. First and foremost is Golden Sun: The Lost Age, the sequel and second act to the highly acclaimed 2001 RPG Golden Sun. The Lost Age is an excellent game in its own right and well worth it if you enjoyed the first entry.

Next up is Onimusha Tactics. Out of the same Onimusha series that Capcom made popular on the PlayStation 2 came this somewhat obscure Game Boy Advance tactical RPG. Although not sharing much in the way of a plot connection to the other games, it does feature a similar storyline and definitely feels like an Onimusha game.

Besides those two games, also out this week is a 3DS remake of Etrian Odyssey 2, and an interesting-looking puzzle game for the Wii U. Get your virtual Game Boy fired up, then proceed further to view this list of new releases.

A look at “Satoru Iwata’s Life Story” by George Weidman

Satoru Iwata died almost a month ago, and while we tried to talk about it on some occasions, I’ve never been quite happy with the way we did. I didn’t grow up with a Nintendo. My first Nintendo home console was actually the Wii. I knew him and his work mostly from those lovely Nintendo Direct conferences, but those never painted the whole picture, especially his roots and motivations. Read more

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Happy Birthday Kirby!

Today was Kirby's 23rd birthday (in North America, anyways). Nintendo is marking the occasion this week with a triple shot of Kirby titles. First up is Kirby 64 for the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console. Next, there's Kirby: Squeak Squad for the Nintendo DS Virtual Console. And, finally, Kirby's Return to Dream Land for the Wii U Wii (try saying that three times fast) Virtual Console.

Also out this week, the Wii U game of the year edition of Badland, and a new cross buy game from the creators of Mutant Mudds. Ingest your enemies to gain their strength, celebrate your 23rd birthday, then jump past the break to view this list of new releases. Read more

New Nintendo eShop Releases: 3D Streets of Rage 2!

Streets of Rage 2 arrives on the 3DS this week! In 3D, no less! The exquisite second installment to one of the greatest beat 'em up series of all time, Streets of Rage 2 is truly a must buy. I don't care if you've never played it, never heard of it, or already own a copy of every version ever released. I insist that you go buy this right now! If you still require a bit of persuasion, you can check out this glowing tribute that our own Jye Cauffle put up, a few months back.

Also out this week, The Binding of Isaac finally makes it's way to Nintendo platforms (after much delay and controversy), a decade old PlayStation 2 platformer gets a special anniversary Wii U remaster, and another fun DS game hits the Wii U Virtual Console. Beat street punks to a pulp with your bare knuckles (See what I did there?), then jump past the break to peruse this fine list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Holy MOTHER!

At long last, Mother 1, or "EarthBound Beginnings" (as the localized version was apparently retitled), has been released outside of Japan! Twenty years after giving us the Super Nintendo sequel, Nintendo has seen fit to grant the numerous requests from fans by finally letting us have the NES original (by means of the Wii U Virtual Console). Between this game, the Final Fantasy 7 remake, and the Shenmue III Kickstarter, I'm starting to worry that the end times may be upon us. Better go download this quick and start playing before the seas begin to boil! But wait, there's more! As if one awesome VC release wasn't enough, act now and you can also get Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, absolutely *free! (*After paying a one-time purchasing and handling charge of $7.99.) Unfortunately, that's about all there is this week. But what a week it's been! Wait 20 years for your pleas to be heard, then jump past the break to see this list of new releases.
