Good Modern Games Are Now DRM-Free!

There are plenty of high-caliber games on GOG – many of which you might already have seen floating around on Steam.  One thing that GOG does lack though, are truly modern, truly open-world games. [Dr. S would like to add: The Witcher?]
Well, this afternoon all that changed.

GOG are now selling the Saints Row series of games.
You read me correctly.  GOG has somehow wrangled the Saints Row series onto its service.  Admittedly, they don’t have access to all the games, [one was an Xbox exclusive and four will probably remain under Steam with the Steam DRM for as long as they can sell it that way, but that’s SPECULATION on my part, please don’t read anything else into it.] but two and three are most definitely up for the having.

Along with this, the Darksiders games are also coming to GOG. [both I + II plus – weirdly – some DLC for two.]
Lastly, if you’re craving some shooter-based action, Metro, Last Light Redux is on offer as well.

All of the games are currently discounted for this week, so buy them now if you want them cheap, but be aware that in order to get the 75% discount for Darksiders, you will have to fork out for the entire Darksiders bundle.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Mega May (Week 1)

Get Ready...For Mega May! Each week throughout the month of May, a new Mega Man title will be dropping onto the Wii U Game Boy Advance Virtual Console. First up, Mega Man & Bass (my favorite GBA Mega Man game)! In honor of its release today, I will offer up a few interesting facts about Mega Man & Bass. Did you know that Mega Man & Bass is actually a localized port of a previously Japan-only Super Nintendo title? For several years, many fans assumed that Mega Man & Bass was actually Mega Man 9, since the original series stopped at 8. Following that logic led many to also assume that Mega Man X was Mega Man 10. It wasn't until 10 years later that the actual Mega Man 9 (and later 10) would be released.

Wherever it may fall in the series, numerically or non, Mega Man & Bass is certainly a worthy entry. I would definitely recommend picking it up if you haven't played it before (or even if you have). And while that's downloading, feel free to check out the rest of this week's new releases after the jump.

New PlayStation Store Releases: Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

This week on New PlayStation Store Releases, return to the role of BJ Blazkowicz in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Set during the events leading up to The New Order, help BJ dispense ruthless justice to the Nazis in the form of a cold lead pipe upside the head (or by just using lots of guns).

If you're in the mood for something lighter, you can check out the Rez-inspired rhythmic shooter, Cosmophony. It's being offered as a 3-way Cross-Buy. Or you can put your brain to the test on a puzzle solving adventure with Ether One or Syberia II. Go grab a section of plumbing and a rifle and then shoot past the break to see the full list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Paper Mario

It's a bit of a sparse one again this week. But it doesn't matter because Paper Mario! Yes, that's right. Paper Mario, the original turn-based Mario RPG with a papery twist is now available on the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console! Oh, happy day!

In case you were wondering, the other releases this week consist of a new shmup for the 3DS and yet ANOTHER horse owning sim. Seriously. There are a ton of them now. Just do a search for "horse" on the Nintendo games pages and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Anywho, go make some paper horses, wait for your turn, and then jump past the break to see the complete list of new releases.

Also new this week, banana republic sim, Tropico 5, a Japanese rpg/idol managing sim called Omega Quintet, and a handful of Star Wars PS2 classics. Go ahead and jump past the broken page (sorry, couldn't resist) to see the complete list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart DS races onto the Wii U Nintendo DS Virtual Console this week. And that's about all there is, game wise. It's a bit of a sparse one, this week, but Mario Kart DS is a nice addition. Games aside, there are some interesting dlc releases this week. Smash Bros fans will finally be able to get their hands on Mewtwo, starting April 28th. Those who are looking for even more Mario Kart action can download the Animal Crossing pack (and Dry Bowser) for Mario Kart 8 now.

That should be enough content to get us by until next week. In case it's not, there are two other games out this week. One is a railroad simulator and the other is a Minecraft clone. For more information, go grab an item box, toss some red shells, and then hop-slide past the break to see the complete list of new releases.

New PlayStation Store Releases: Shovel Knight!

Finally making its way to Sony platforms this week is none other than the retro indie darling, Shovel Knight (as a sexy Cross Buy 3-Way, no less)! Also releasing this week, Assassin's Creed (goes to) China, and LA Cops (you can find our review of that one here). Head past the break to dig up the complete list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: DK! Donkey Kong Is Here!

"He's back again, so listen up dudes.
If you know the words, you can join in too.
Put your hands together, if you want to clap,
As we take you through this monkey rap..."
Okay, that's enough of that. Joining Mario 64 on the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console this week is Donkey Kong 64! So, if you happen to like gorillas named Kong, or virtual bananas, or terrible, terrible rap songs, I would recommend giving it a try. Also out this week is 3D Fantasy Zone II! Now the only question is, would I rather play a great classic game on my Wii U or my 3DS? Decisions, decisions. While I'm busy deciding, feel free to take yourself through the complete list of new releases after the jump.

New PlayStation Store Releases: Test Your Might

"Get over here!" Mortal Kombat X has arrived! It's hard to believe that this is already the 10th iteration. I still remember playing parts one and two in the arcade, way back in '93 or '94. Now I feel old. We've already posted what everybody else is saying about the game. Keep checking back here and we may just have a review of our own up at some point. No promises though.

Also new this week, Teslagrad (in the US anyways), Titan Souls, a twinstiq, I mean twin-stick shooter, and a PS2 Classic for good measure. Now, "Finish Him!" ...and then head past the break to see the full list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Separation Anxiety

This week's set of eShop games marks the release of the first (and to date, only) New Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. While the New 3DS isn't the first instance of Nintendo choosing to introduce a 1.5 upgrade version to an existing hardware line (see the Nintendo DSi), Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be the first Nintendo published retail release that is exclusive to an upgraded system. There weren't any for the DSi.

There are sure to be fans clamoring for the game. Likewise, there are certainly Nintendo fans who are excited about the new upgrades and features that the New 3DS offers. But personally, I have to question Nintendo's wisdom in regard to separating their userbase with this release. I can't imagine that sales of this game will be that high. Far fewer people own the New 3DS than the original and XL models. Moreover, the very existence of the New 3DS and its own exclusive game(s) can only lead to further market confusion and animosity from uninformed consumers.

It just seems ill-advised to have made this game an exclusive when they could have just as easily made it playable on all 3DS systems. After all, Nintendo has already released 3DS games that took advantage of the New 3DS features but were still universally playable. But the decision is made, the die is cast, and now I suppose only time (and sales) will tell. In any case, Xenoblade Chronicles is but one of several new games this week. Joining last week's initial Wii U Nintendo DS Virtual Console release is WarioWare: Touched! and Yoshi Touch & Go. Head past the break to be reunited with the complete list of new releases.
