Mo Tech Mo Problems WRUP

Good morning everyone and welcome to another weekend. It's strangely warm this morning at 6:35 am as I woke up to 55 F outside after going to bed when it was around 30 F last night. These last couple of storms have been bonkers. Warm rain, then snow, then hail and high wind gusts all at once for hours at a time, then nothing. I haven't seen totals for this most recent storm but I know the Sierra snow pack is way, way above average for this time of year and I really hope it stays there to last until it really matters in the summer. As for the previous storm, I got eleven inches of rain in three days. I've seen more, in fact I remember getting nine inches of rain in one day some years ago, but this was definitely a big hit to the drought conditions in CA. At least for the immediate term. It'll take years for that water to get to the aquifers and water tables. In the meantime there's flooding and dam spillway failures to attend to, but we have to take the good with the bad. I did hear something that kind of made me go slack-jawed for a moment and that's the prediction that the recently passed storm contained something like fifteen times the volume of the Mississippi River as a whole of precipitation.

But enough about the weather, let's look at some tech stuff. Read more

It’s A Holiday WRUP

Well good morning everyone and happy holiday weekend to you all. I'm getting a late start here because I've been up cooking and prepping for tomorrow's get-together dinner for hours already. I've made a few dozen swig cookies and I've got a turkey breast in the oven now soon to be followed by a pie. I also took my roast out of the freezer so it can thaw for tomorrow. I've been marinating it for four days but decided that after that it should be frozen until we were ready. My sister is coming here any time now to make a couple loaves of beer bread that we can turn into dressing along with some fresh veggies. So tomorrow I'll be cooking a roast and a half ham and a whole bunch of sides and since the weather is supposed to be awesome we'll be eating outside by the fire pits with some friends and drinking beer and wine and just having a good old time.

Anyway, let's look at the WRUP shall we? Read more

Revealing WRUP

Well hello there everyone. It's me, Scrooloose and it's the weekend. I'm writing this at the beginning of a big storm so hopefully I don't lose power. It's windy and starting to get pretty cold and rainy. We're expected to see somewhere in the neighborhood of two to three feet of snow by tomorrow with high wind gusts and potential whiteouts. In the meantime we could see up to two inches of rain per hour. I'm glad I prepped the driveway drainage yesterday and got things all secured. Anyway let's look at some WRUP. Read more

Performance WRUP

Hey everyone and welcome to still another WRUP weekend at Twinstiq. It's been a wet and rainy few days here in CA and boy do we need it. I even got a little snow with the first storm that rolled through. Right now the clouds are so low that it looks like fog and it's relatively warm, all things considered. I've just made coffee and built a fire to comfort the house and here I sit before 7:00am to bring the WRUP, even if it's a day later than usual. Read more

WRUP Friday Deals

Happy Weekend everyone. It's WRUP time and I'm struggling to find anything of note that isn't black Friday deal oriented. I suppose that's fine though seeing as how it seems like no matter satisfied I am with the current state of my PC there is always some deal on some part I don't have or is normally out of a reasonable price range that catches my eye. So with that in mind here are a few that did in fact catch my eye. My right eye. And my left. And the one by my third nipple. It's only weird if you make it weird. Read more

It’s Another WRUP

Good morning everyone, it's yet another weekend and that means it's WRUP time. We got our first snow this week and it was nice to see a change come to our incessant dry dusty weather. Also during that time my damn clothes dryer broke again so I ordered and new thermostat and fuse for that. I've got to figure out what's going on because dumping $50 every couple of months into the heater on my dryer is untenable. Not to mention the stupid amount of labor it takes to replace these tiny parts.

On another note, here's to everyone affected by these giant corporate layoffs happening all over the place. I know of at least a few people and am learning of more every day it seems that have lost their jobs, my sister is in fact one of those 11,000 people that were laid off from Meta. She'll be okay, she's already getting offers from other sources, but it's not fun to lose your stability. I feel especially for those who just moved to the bay area, just signed their one year apartment lease or whatever and then found out through an email that they've been let go because of some pandemic over-hiring or whatever it's being blamed on. I know of one guy who worked for Twitter and bought a house like 2 months ago, now he's jobless because a billionaire decided to take over a whole company and fire half it's staffing. Ridiculous. Anyway, to anyone out there who's been kicked in the teeth because you've been deemed expendable to the one per-centers who had to make very hard decisions good luck to you. Your resumes will likely get you back on track shortly. Read more

NovembWRUP

Hey everyone. Here's hoping you all had a good Halloween weekend and enjoyed whatever festivities you may have been involved in safely. I spent mine with some friends in their loft smoking cigars and laughing listening to music. It was a chill and very good time. Now though it's time for fall to really feel like the fall season. We've had our first snow already and I think by Sunday we're expecting a lot more at least in the higher elevations. It's the most normal November I've seen in a long time. This is like when I was younger.  Anyway, here's to another nice weekend of gaming and whatever else might be coming your way. Read more
