Revealing WRUP

Well hello there everyone. It's me, Scrooloose and it's the weekend. I'm writing this at the beginning of a big storm so hopefully I don't lose power. It's windy and starting to get pretty cold and rainy. We're expected to see somewhere in the neighborhood of two to three feet of snow by tomorrow with high wind gusts and potential whiteouts. In the meantime we could see up to two inches of rain per hour. I'm glad I prepped the driveway drainage yesterday and got things all secured. Anyway let's look at some WRUP.

The game play preview has released for Saber Interactive's sequel to Space Marine, first released in 2011 by Sega. The aptly named and long awaited, Space Marine II will come to violently crush our gaming rigs with thunder hammers and big stomps in 2023. Here's the preview from YouTube. I am of course pretty hyped for this. Titus is back somehow and he's a Primaris Marine now, though Mark Strong will not be voicing the hero this time. Tyranids seem to be our main antagonist here and the trailer does show some game play in multiple locations including outside in a kind of forest or jungle setting. I have to say, as bored as I am with Tyranids in Warhammer games, this looks like it's going to be fun.

Speaking of sequels, last summer we got to play Horizon: Forbidden West, and by we I mean not me because I think I want to wait for it to make it's seemingly inevitable trip to a PC port. Fairly soon though this newest Horizon will be getting it's first expansion, The Burning Shores. In April of 2023 Aloy will travel to the archipelago of what used to be southern California and specifically Los Angeles where she will battle new machines and meet new people. Engadget has more on this including a video preview and the rather unfortunate statement that The Burning Shores will be a PS5 exclusive and in fact not be coming to Playstation 4.

And speaking PC ports (you see how I'm ordering things here, man I'm great) Returnal will be making it's way to our computers "soon" says Housemarque. Personally I'm not super excited for this one but I do think it's great that more and more Sony exclusives are being ported. This is only good for the games and the gamers who would like to play them. IGN has the story in better detail here including the preview showing some ray traced elements.

Bandai Namco and Fromsoftware has also announced Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon and this one is pretty exciting. We haven't seen one in a long time if you like the idea of a potential "Soulslike" as a mech combat game, then your dreams might be coming true. Not a lot of detail about this yet but the preview looks cool if a bit enigmatic and I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure. Here's the reveal video, get hyped.

I expect to see some new GPU information soon with the coming AMD drops. Maybe next week we'll have something to say about that here as well. Until then have a great weekend everybody and if you're in my neck of California, stay dry and warm.

What are we playing this time?

Greywolfe: so, i'm sort of doodling around with old games and none has stuck quite so much as ultima 3 did a few months ago. right now, i'm trying kingdoms of amalur: re-reckoning. i'm far enough into the game that i can see the game loop and it's kinda eh. very 5/10 game. not too bad, not too good. the combat system, i think, is going to end up being pretty cool as i gain abilities and the fate system is kinda neat, but apart from that, the world and story are both pretty bland and very middle-of-the-road fantasy. i don't mind the graphical style they have going, though. it's very wow-adjacent. it even feels - appropriately, given it's history as an almost-mmo like a mmo.

AJ: I finally downloaded Tunic (on PS5) and am looking forward to giving that a go. I also picked up the Prinny Presents NIS Phantom Brave/Soul Nomad compilation for the Switch so I will likely be checking that out as well.

Scrooloose: If the power doesn't go out I'll be back in Destiny 2 pumping out levels in the new content and new season. I'll also be cleansing Atoma of heretics in Darktide and pushing Josh Duhamel a little further into Callisto Protocol.
