Friday before February, so here we go with a special #4iF WRUP
As already mentioned, we are again taking part in this year’s Four in February and so should you! Rules can be found here.
I really wanted to do a Hardcore run this year. The Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Rogue Galaxy still need some of my attention and I thought why not finish them during #4iF (together with Xenoblade Chronicles X), but let’s be honest… no one would be able to do that, especially since I want to finally redesign the homepage (spoiler: we’re ditching the dark theme, unless you really don’t want us to) and have some serious work in front of me too.
So instead I go with something more manageable:
1: Neo Tomb Raider 2, aka. Rise of the Tomb Raider
It’s been out on the Xbox One since last year, but I really wasn’t a fan of Microsoft’s decision to buy the exclusivity. The PC version also looks and runs better (at least in theory), so there’s that too.
2: Dropsy
Oh, Dropsy. Like most entries on this list, I already started playing it (in this case: a week ago). Dropsy will probably be one of the harder games to finish. Not because it’s long or especially hard, but because it’s so very sad. Also very happy in a way, but so, so, soooo very sad. It’s basically an old-school point & click adventure that tells the tale of Dropsy the Clown, who was involved in some accident at the circus which killed a bunch of people. Everyone in the town is depressed and it’s your job to make them feel better and hug them. Got a helper complex? This is the game for you.
3: Life is Strange
I’ve been eyeing that for a while now, even started with Episode 1 two months ago, or so, but with all the recent releases I was fast to drop it again. What I’ve seen was interesting however and I’m actually really looking forward to finally finishing it.
4: Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2/The Witness/Bedlam
The fourth will very much depend on my mood. Walking Dead would be great, because I finally got my girlfriend to play some more story focused video games with Season 1 and this would allow us to talk a bit about a game we both play at the same time. On the other hand I’m not quite sure if I’m willing to play this in the same month I’m tackling Life is Strange and Dropsy.
The Witness is something I’m absolutely in love with at the moment and I will certainly dedicate much of my February gaming to it, but finishing it? I have no idea if there even is a way to finish it. This game is still a complete mystery to me… one of the reasons I love it.
So maybe I’ll just go with Bedlam instead. I already mentioned it in a recent podcast. It’s the game that’s inspired by 90’s FPS games. No idea how long it actually is, but I doubt we are talking Morrowind hours here.
And there you have it. One of these games will be my WRUP this weekend (hey, there are no rules against head starts :p )
What is everyone else playing over the Weekend?
(Will get updated with more as they roll in. Forgot to remind people that Friday is WRUP day…)
- Greywolfe (Twitter, YouTube): space quest 4! i'm going to steal a ship. chronology is gone. gotta find a new game - though, four in february is showing up soon and that's going to help me a lot ;) - gateway is still an ongoing project and other than that, i'll just play some hearthstone and the like :)
- Thomas (Twitter): See above
- Dante: Disgaea 5, Rocket League and some Viewtiful Joe 2.
- Yoda0VGs (Twitter): Might pick up the new Tomb Raider, though I'll prolly wait on that. Was gonna play some gamecube titles, then I forgot and packed them all into boxes for the move :P So instead I'll play through Ultimate Spider-Man and maybe even stream it to see how it holds up lol unless someone has a copy of rouge squadron 2 for pc they don't want :D
I’m going to be playing some Organ Trail on both my Vita and PS4, and Saturday night a friend and I have plans to tackle more Battlefront. I’ve hit the level cap of 50 and now he’s trying to get there as well.
On the PC I’ve been playing around with a few different things, seeing how much of an improvement my new video card is. Fallout 4 and Hard Reset are what I’ve been trying on it first. Hard Reset in particular looks good maxed out at 60 FPS. Also I’ll fire up some more Stick of Truth and dabble in the Sunless Sea free weekend on Steam.
Sunless Sea is really cool. There have been changes to way combat takes place since my last time playing, but from what I’m hearing from friends it’s still great.
The Witness seems like a poor choice for 4iF, but I guess it depends on how good one is at puzzle games. There’s already a few crazy people who’ve completed the 600 puzzles in the Witness, it’s not even been out a week. Others however have struggled on some of them for a hour (possibly more). It sounds fun, outside of trying to finish it by a date deadline.
Playing the Division beta a little bit. The PvE should be good outside of the timed virus scanning mission bs (I already hate looking for shit, and I really hate looking for shit with a time limit even more). Mind you, the virus scan wasn’t hard, it’s just I had the unfortunate luck of mission one of the scanner, then trying to find out where the missing one was before hitting the time limit, and failing miserably until the 3rd try and fighting the 3D map the whole while.
Not so sure about the pvp Dark Zone stuff, which is heavily biased against randoms/lone wolves looking to pick up better gear. There’s the off chance of getting little tidbits here and there, but extraction via helicopter shouldn’t be the only option. Will it be fun playing lone sniper vigilante against roving bands of player-killers, without getting wrapped up in the looting aspect? Maybe…apparently this is what others have enjoyed.
you can finish the witness without clearing all the puzzles, so there’s that, but yeah… tall order
still, it’s not as hard as it might look at first (even for people who are bad at puzzle games)
i’m kinda looking forward to the division now. It’s probably going to be one huge technical mess at launch, with a big endgame content problem (besides the dark zone stuff), but i feel like it has some real potential.
good to know, thanks.
