Bloodstained:  Ritual Of The Night Kickstarter Closes at $5.5 Million.

Your life is bereft of Metroid, right?  Or perhaps you’re wanting some of that old-school Castlevania madness?  What would happen if BOTH of those games ran together and turned into a fusion of something awesome?

Well, you’d get Bloodstained:  Ritual of the Night, a new Metroidvania game coming from the father of the genre himself, Koji Igarashi.

When it seemed like publishers wouldn’t back his idea for a new game in the style he prefers, he took to Kickstarter to pitch the same idea to his fans.

And boy did they react positively.

Mr Igarashi set the initial funding goal at $500,000 to make the sort of game he envisioned and within a few scant hours of the Kickstarter going live, that goal had been smashed and tiers were being added to the stretch goals that were already in place.

Given the positive reaction of the fans, the game will now add not just the base game, but things like a second playable character, Nightmare difficulty mode, and – perhaps most fitting of all – Classic mode.

This is excellent news for those who have repeatedly asked for a game like this to come along, as it would seem that the major publishing houses are just not interested in giving consumers what they want.

Congratulations, Mr Igarashi and good luck with the development phase of your game.

YouTube Gaming:  What Do You Want To Watch Today?

Over the last few years, gaming on YouTube has become a fairly major part of the video service, with folks like PewDiePie, Markiplier and Tobygames pulling in crazy numbers of viewers [as of this writing, PewDiePie has racked up 37,201,347 subscribers] – which all amounts to gaming on the service being a pretty big deal.

Between this and the fact that Twitch.tv is arguably leading the pack with regards to game streaming has led the video behemoth to set up its own, dedicated “version” of YouTube especially for gaming.

This new portal will be called YouTube Gaming.

What this seems to mean – in practise – is that while gaming content will still show up on YouTube, the Gaming channel itself will be a space dedicated solely to things like Let’s Plays, Speedruns and gaming music videos.

The other big change is that live broadcasts will not have to be scheduled anymore and can simply happen on the fly and as you’re ready to stream your gaming prowess to the world.

Most interesting, perhaps, is that games that have their own pages.  So, for example, if you wanted to watch just people playing and enjoying The Witcher 3, or if you were looking for different speedruns of The Legend of Zelda, you can now do that by finding that specific game and adding it to a “collection” of games that you regularly watch content of.

Naturally, all of this will come bundled with an application that you can put onto your ‘phone for quick and easy access.

This new “version” of YouTube is going to be rolled out during summer of this year [2015] with the United States being turned on first, followed by the United Kingdom.

Twitch’s response?

Google posted via it's youtube twitter:

Twitch are clearly not worried about youtube joining the "gaming fray."
It seems like they’re not too worried.

Here’s to a summer indoors, watching video games!

WRUP: Everything Everywhere Extremely Sucks

E3 is right around the corner. MUCH HYPE! …not.
I mostly get excited about new hardware and the folks behind Uplay who shall not be named soured game announcements for me. Fallout is cool and all, but it’s a Bethesda RPG. I want to discover it through playing, not by watching it a year early.
Microsoft probably has nothing that really excites me (bit of irony: I’m sitting in a Halo 5 shirt while writing this), unless they announce a new Viva Pinata or a Steel Battalion that comes with a standalone controller.
Sony doesn’t have much to show besides 3rd party stuff, hinted by the fact that they will skip the Gamescom press conference.
EA will suck, the folks behind Uplay will most definitively suck. So what’s left? Nintendo, the last bastion of hope. Who would have guessed that two years back.
Ok, Bethesda probably has some more cool shit to show besides F4, and we will see some VR games. EA could show more Star Wars and Red Dead Redemption 2 might be a thing. I’m just pissed that I can’t plan my life around this year’s E3, despite now running Twinstiq.
Btw: The E3 Bingo cards are coming soon, so that’s a tradition we keep alive.

Enough text, what is everyone playing pre-E3?

  • Andrew J Amideo (@Andoro36): Will most likely be racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on GRID, whilst watching the real thing on tv.
  • Billy Colley (@Amuntoth): I'll be working this weekend, but if I can find the time I'm going to work on the Chroma Squad review and play some WWE2K15
  • Cody Hall (@Yoda0VGs): I will be taking a short break from the Witcher this weekend to play some much needed rounds of Mortal Kombat with the Girlfriend :D
  • Greywolfe (@lostwolfe, YouTube): quest for glory 2 is done.  just "post-game" stuff left to do [ie:  where i do a thief run, for the most part] - the dig is completed with both endings and limbo is /probably/ going to wind down.  so i have no idea of what i'm playing next.  the big sierra list tells me what sierra game to go for next, but the other two...i'm at a loss :)
  • Jimmy Vegas (@JimmyPhantom17): Slaughtering some zombies in Dead Rising 3
  •  John Rausch (@visitzebes): My days will be filled with ink.
  • Thomas Ortsik (@Dr_Strangethumb): Will play the super fun “let’s work through the weekend” and You Must Build a Boat before falling asleep
  • Trey Valeska (@Trey_Valeska): Taking one more week off from gaming. Christopher Lee/Hammer marathon and maybe a book.
  • Richard Mitchell (@TheRichardM): I'm going to be powering through @TheGeekieAwards games on the way to E3.
  • Sam Prell (@SamPrell): The Oh Crap Can I Actually Make It To My Next Gate game as I head to E3
  • Susan Arendt (@SusanArendt): You Must Build a Boat whilst in the air to LA.
  • Mike Suszek (@mikesuszek): SPLATOON.
  • Anthony John Agnello (@ajohnagnello, Twitch): Probably a little snitchin' while I'm Witchin' & Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon comes to the Wii U Game Boy Advance Virtual Console this week. Specifically, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, which, itself, was a remake of the earlier PlayStation Harvest Moon game, Back To Nature. For those unfamiliar with the series, it's kind of like FarmVille, except that the Harvest Moon games came out way earlier and were infinitely better. Also out this week, LEGO Jurassic World, and a new version of Dr Mario for the 3DS. Reap what you have virtually sown, then jump past the break to see more of this week's new releases.

Shovel Knight will be found somewhere in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Just call it a Kickstarter Crossover.
The latest Project Update for Bloodstained contains some fascinating info:"We've got good news: Inti Creates and Yacht Club Games have agreed that Natsume's reimagining of their hero (above) feels right at home in the demon castle!
They won't tell us any more than that, but when the game comes out remember that you might bump into this guy in a crowded corridor somewhere. Who knows what might happen after that?"

This is a neat little cameo to look forward to in Bloodstained. Castlevania games in the "IGA" style have contained more than a few joke enemies and clever nods to other series. I'm sure another walking suit of armor won't look out of place. Maybe you can use the shovel?

WoW Devs:  You’re cleared for takeoff

When World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor was released people who played the game noticed one big concept missing. Flying. The concept of flying had been dispatched for the expansions release with no tell tale signs of it coming back. Long time players of the game were almost miserable, stating that they had played the game for years trying to earn specific achievements to get new mounts only to now have no use for them.
Picture

Ain't she a beauty.
It wasn't until a few weeks ago when Blizzard announced Patch 6.2 that players started to get antsy. Patch 6.2 opens up a new zone within the game called "Tanaan Jungle," which adds more quests and objectives to the current expansion. It also releases the final raid zone for the expansion "Hellfire Citadel". Though it is not the last patch for Warlords, Blizzard has turned more of their attention to the next upcoming expansion.

As more information about the Patch was being released one major question was still left unanswered. " Would there be flying in this expansion?"

After much consideration Blizzard Dev Ion Hazzikostas in an interview with Polygon announced,  "Having looked at how flying has played out in the old world in the last couple of expansions, we realized that while we were doing it out of this ingrained habit after we introduced flying in The Burning Crusade, it actually detracted from game play in a whole lot of ways, while there was certainly convenience in being able to completely explore the world in three dimensions, that also came at the expense of game-play like targeted exploration, like trying to figure out what's in that cave on top of a hill and how do I get up there."

The summary is a big fat whopping, "No."

This drove the community mad, forum posts from angry players started to pile up. Players were commenting on the amount of content they had already seen versus what they had now and could not see the same viewpoint. Mmo-champion which has been a website dedicated to major MMO's for years had its comments section on the initial news release flooded with negative comments from players who were just plain upset. Some stating that they never even left their new garrison because they couldn't fly.

Apparently this amount of backlash had not gone unnoticed. As of a more recent post to the Blizzard forums, Hazzikostas come forth saying that they will now be implementing flying. However, it's only for those who earn it.

By earning I mean, completing a series of achievements and grinding out reputations with in-game factions.

Picture

This post has seemed to calm most of the community.

These achievements basically take the player through all the content that Blizzard wanted each person to experience without flying when the expansion was first released. Mmo-Champion posted a current graph of the percentage of players that have already earned the Meta achievements required, and skeptics say the rest of the achievements aren't going to take much extra time either.

As for me, I'm going to be spending my time leveling my fishing. See you in a few years.

As Always,

~Tisnight

Hyrule Warriors 3DS has a trailer

A trailer for Hyrule Warriors on 3DS leaked, so let’s take a look at it:
You didn’t know that this was even a thing? Don’t worry, that’s because it wasn’t yet announced. The video itself was supposedly unlisted on the official KoeiTecmo YouTube channel in preparation of an E3 reveal.

Thanks to Laura Kate Dale for providing a mirror of the trailer.
