Bloodstained:  Ritual Of The Night Kickstarter Closes at $5.5 Million.

Your life is bereft of Metroid, right?  Or perhaps you’re wanting some of that old-school Castlevania madness?  What would happen if BOTH of those games ran together and turned into a fusion of something awesome?

Well, you’d get Bloodstained:  Ritual of the Night, a new Metroidvania game coming from the father of the genre himself, Koji Igarashi.

When it seemed like publishers wouldn’t back his idea for a new game in the style he prefers, he took to Kickstarter to pitch the same idea to his fans.

And boy did they react positively.

Mr Igarashi set the initial funding goal at $500,000 to make the sort of game he envisioned and within a few scant hours of the Kickstarter going live, that goal had been smashed and tiers were being added to the stretch goals that were already in place.

Given the positive reaction of the fans, the game will now add not just the base game, but things like a second playable character, Nightmare difficulty mode, and – perhaps most fitting of all – Classic mode.

This is excellent news for those who have repeatedly asked for a game like this to come along, as it would seem that the major publishing houses are just not interested in giving consumers what they want.

Congratulations, Mr Igarashi and good luck with the development phase of your game.
