WRUP’d the Sh*t Out Of That

How's everyone feeling? Good? I hope it's good. The weekend is here and I hope I can go see Top Gun Maverick. That's a sentence I haven't said since I was a kid. That movie was an inspiration to me and it's why I definitely became a Navy fighter pilot. Don't look that up. I actually re-watched the original a few days ago and wow, the movie is still cool but wow the dialogue is mostly bad. And I say that as a guy who repeated that line "I feel the need -The need for speed" over and over during recess while my friends and I tried to see how high we could go on the swings at school. Top Gun is still a good movie but it doesn't feel like it held up super well. It's not really a criticism so much as an observation, I still think everyone should watch it.

Okay WRUP stuff... What do we have?

I don't have a Steam Deck and I don't think I even want one. But, I will say that it's pretty appealing to have a big library of more than three thousand titles to choose from on a hand held device. PC Gamer with more on that. Yeah I'm still on the fence about getting one of these devices. Seems like the best reason to have one now is for resale value since they're still so hard to get hands on. Otherwise I'm just not a mobile gamer. I use that term "mobile gamer" in a more literal sense of the word, not as in mobile phone gaming. Rather as gaming while being mobile. I don't even own or want a laptop. Yet if I were to get a hand held I think the Steam Deck looks pretty solid.

Raven Software has started the process of forming a union. The Game Workers Alliance is a small but very real union of quality assurance testers who have felt for quite some time that things to change to their benefit. Forming a union is a big deal and further making waves is that it's being created under Activision Blizzard, just one of quite a few gaming companies that could use some reform and better protections for their workers. It may start small, but if it's successful it could pull in many, many more people and hopefully become a real standard. Here's a link to Polygon to show more detail.

What are we playing? WRWP?

AJ: Went by that retro games store again recently and picked up a copy of Kirby: Super Star for the Super NES and Friday the 13th for the regular NES. I also just got a copy of Streets of Rage for the Genesis off ebay so I may play any or all of those titles this weekend.

Scroo: SnowRunner and Hardspace Shipbreaker for me.

Greywolfe: i'm postgaming in chicory. i think this is likely chicory's weakest point: in an effort to make the game appealing to a more core audience, it has A LOT of collectibles. while it's true that most of these lead to more self expression in the game [usually, they give you clothes or more brushes that you can use to paint], it's also just a checklist. it's almost doubled the runtime of the game for me. that's a double edged sword: on the one hand, i love being in chicory's world. on the other, i can't help but feel that this is padding and shouldn't be here. [or shouldn't be here in this way, at least.] - chicory remains fantastic, though. going to VERY DEFINITELY start enchanter this weekend. promise.
