Hey there everyone. It's me, Scrooloose and it's the weekend. I missed last week for no good reason at all, but here I am now so let's WRUP this.
In a move that may or may not shock you, Sega is selling Relic Entertainment and cutting a bunch of jobs. This seems to be a commonality lately. Relic says they'll be going independent under a new investor and keep up with current titles. Here's some info from Polygon to help you get the gist.
I have been playing Horizon: Forbidden West and I would implore you to do the same. The PC port is quite good with very good optimization and load times along with plenty of menu options to make sure it's running for you. Fully maxed out I'm running at around 90 FPS on my 3700X and 7900GRE at 1440p. Keep in mind that's a PCIE 4 GPU running on PCIE 3, so performance left on the table aside it's running everything great anyway, so far. It's glassy smooth and probably the finest detailed game I've played, ever. Horizon Zero Dawn maybe has a little more intriguing start but the hook for the sequel is really good and I've already put some 20 hours in with no regrets. Plenty of save points, lots of world to explore and lots of base content plus the Burning Shores DLC for $60 feels pretty solid. Especially if, like me you don't have a PS5. The Burning Shores DLC isn't available for PS4... because suck it, I guess. If this is what PC ports look like for Sony titles now, I'm even more excited for Ghost of Tsushima in May. It's a 97 GB download that unpacks to roughly 122 though so make sure you've got some space on an SSD or your load times will be long.
Sorry for holding short session here but that's about all I have. My week up to now has been busy and I'm not doing a ton of looking at news. So here's hoping you're all having a good weekend. We'll see you next time.
What's on the agenda?
Greywolfe: lowly doing side-missions in marvel's midnight suns, so i can get my guy to level 25 and THEN i'll tackle the main mission. he's at 10 now, so while it's excruciating, it's getting there slowly but surely. the game isn't bad. the social aspects and whatnot are just silly. i don't think i'd mind them if they were written better, but it's very much a case of: "these old people think this thing is cool and it's not." while i'm sort of meandering my way through that, i'm also playing pool of radiance - the ssi game from 1988. it's got WAY too much combat [that's too long], but it's pretty strategic and that's all good, at least. but it is also VERY of it's time: my guys were level 1 for AGES before anyone leveled up [and the maximum level for most characters is 6.] - so it's going to be somewhat slow going.
AJ: Got me a PC Engine Mini so I'm likely to be playing lots of TurboGrafx games (and not much else) this weekend!
Scrooloose: Helldivers 2, because the galactic war isn't going to win itself and because the GM is teasing some twists. So we shall see. I also started Horizon Forbidden West and holy balls that has to be the most finely detailed game I've ever seen. When the sun is right the peach fuzz on Aloy's face is visible. Crazy.
