Happy weekend, everyone. It's Time for WRUP again. It's before 6:30am here, I just sat down with a cup of coffee and I'm figuring on getting a couple things down before I just fire up Helldivers 2 and liberate the countryside. So let's get to it.
It may not really mean much yet but there's potential for a recent AI project to start raising GPU prices beyond the grasp of us mere mortals again. The Tinybox uses six AMD 7900 XTX graphics cards to power an AI and will cost around $15,000 to purchase. The company behind Tinybox says it likes the AMD GPU's because they "support peer to peer interconnections that are necessary for LLMs" - Large Language Models. Here's more from TechRadar. So far it looks like this could mainly effect the most expensive flagship GPU's from AMD and even Nvidia's 4090 is on the hook, though it seems less popular as it has less VRAM overall. Still on a personal level I hope this doesn't work out like it's wanting to. I'd really like all these AI comapanies to perhaps make deals in order to develop their own hardware rather than victimize PC enthusiasts.
Want a PS5 and Spider Man 2, but you can't justify spending the money on it? Well, it's less expensive now for a limited time at just $399 USD's. Info and links here from The Verge.
Helldivers 2 had a momentous event I happened to be a part of both throughout the campaign and right when it happened to pay off after a couple days of intense fighting on the planet, Tien Kwan. Players logged in earlier in the week to see major orders hint heavily at the release of exo suits, big mechs that shoot big guns and rockets and stomp on everything including teammates. All they had to do was take back a planet recently overrun by the Automatons and the vehicles would be theirs. Completing missions add incrementally to a planets liberation total and after days of missions I happened to be there as it rolled over from 99% to 100% and at that moment the orders were updated and the exo suits were ours to use. It was given both freely for everyone as a one time per mission call-in for a limited time and as a two time use strategem upgrade in your super destroyer for 20,000 requisition as long as you're level 25 and up. They're dominating bugs already and their use against Automaton forces is helping even out the field when it comes to tanks and hulks who have nigh-impenetrable armor and require some nuance to bring down without the heaviest weapons and strategem call-ins. I got some game play in before the servers went down temporarily, you can see that here on my own miniscule YouTube channel. By now there's tons of content from people doing way better than I did.
What are we playing this lovely weekend?
Greywolfe: this weekend, i'm not going to be playing too much. trying to set up for a windows reinstall, so i'm cataloguing and backing up stuff.
AJ: Super Mario Bros Wonder. I also picked up Fallout 4 on sale last week on GOG so I may play that as well.
Scrooloose: Helldivers 2 for me and probably not much else. I guess I'm also going to see the second part of Dune this evening.
