Welcome to another Saturday. This is going to be a busy weekend for me so let's just get right to the WRUP.
If you were looking forward to E3 being in Los Angeles this year you will probably find yourself disappointed as the event has been cancelled for 2023. Console manufacturers and major game game publishers all pulled out of the event early citing among many reasons the lack demo content for their brands. I happen to think personally that E3 lost it's way quite a while back when it became an event to attend by invitation only. It used to be pretty exciting to be able to go check out all the new and upcoming titles and hardware in person. It sounds like we can expect another try in the future for a new E3 event, but I wouldn't get my hopes up since the last three have been cancelled. Polygon has some info including quotes from event organizers.
Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 holdouts, if you're using Steam and wish to continue doing so you'll need to update to at least Windows 10 before the new year, 2024. There's a support page on Steam's website that explains the change is due to the Steam applications use of "...core features in Steam [that] rely on and embedded version of Google Chrome...". Those particular features no longer function in older versions of Windows so you could be looking at security issues, which could be serious in an application that has your personal information saved. You can see the support page for yourself here.
That's all from me this weekend. Enjoy yourselves out there.
What are we playing?
AJ: I was recently fortunate enough to acquire an incredibly pristine complete boxed copy of Lightening Force for the Sega Genesis, so most definitely that. I also picked up Fire Emblem: Engage for the Switch, so likely a bit of that as well.
Greywolfe: i "beat" banners of ruin [it's a roguelite, so take that how you want to - basically i found what i think is "essentially the end boss" and killed him by drawing a billion cards] and have moved on to omensight, a game i've been curious about since it was announced. i thought that stories: path of destinies had a VERY DUMB name, but the gameplay was mostly solid in a laidback way where you could turn off your brain and just enjoy. omensight looks fairly similar.
Scrooloose: During a bout of some curiosity I decided to look again at Diablo 3 after enjoying the Diablo 4 beta weekend so much. Turns out I somehow have access to the Reaper of Souls expansion so I reinstalled it and made a Crusader. So I'll probably be playing that in what free time I'll have during what's going to be a work heavy weekend.
