Why Race Up Pineapples

Good day to you all it is I, Scrooloose and I'm done with this speech pattern already. Yesterday it was 73 and sunny with some nice fresh feeling breeze action. Today it's going to top out in the high 40s and rain. And tomorrow it may snow a few inches. Gotta love that early Spring weather. I'm a middle aged man. I talk about the weather. It's what we do. Let's get to the WRUP though because I don't know, maybe you're not a middle aged man. Or something...

Ubisoft is at it again and has started revoking game licenses for The Crew on Ubisoft Connect accounts. The Crew is a now ten year old title and Ubisoft had already made the game unplayable and in fact shut the servers down on the first of April. Of course this means if you were trying to play the game, you already couldn't as it is online only and as mentioned the servers have been down a little while now. Mentioned in this bit from Egadget though, there was a population of fans that wanted to build private servers so they could continue to play. That's no longer possible. Of course this also sparks a question of legality since it's a title people people payed money for and now those people can't play said title. In the fine print of digital licensing there's a line resembling - You're just renting this game and we can take this back any time we want. So the fight could get a little dodgy. The issue for me is that it could set a precedent of platforms removing games because they feel like it and those game "owners" can only shrug and move on.

Speaking of Ubisoft, Star Wars Outlaws has looked like a pretty intriguing title for a while now. As driven into the ground the famous franchise seems to be, Outlaws looks like a semi-fresh take with some neat open world action. But hang on, now we see that Outlaws comes with the special editions that narrow our eyes and set claxons to sound on even the Star Destroyers we'll inevitably see in the upper atmosphere. There are Gold and Ultimate editions costing $110 and $130 respectively. These "editions" give access to a single bespoke mission not available in the pleb standard $70 verision of the game along with some cosmetics and a season pass that includes two unannounced DLC packs and an art book PDF.

Now, this may not be that terrible of a buy in terms of actual value if those DLCs end up being expansions and not just a new ship, speeder or a couple of skins for characters or something that regard. But we don't know yet. There's also the possibility Ubisoft pulls a license as seen above. I doubt that will happen with a new game, but it's not impossible. What I'm saying is this isn't a good idea. Don't fall for the FOMO. PC Gamer has more here. Oh, and if you plan to buy a physical copy of the game, no you don't because it will require an internet connection to install, according to Kotaku. Meaning it's a digital copy anyway and that physical disc is just something else to have on your shelf. Further, eventually it won't work at all because that digital content, the files you have to download, won't be on the servers any more. And that sucks.

Nintentdo has shuttered online services for WiiU and 3DS. A sad day for people who love those devices and like to have that online access. Well, there could be hope in the future and though it's not really stated how far out its release may be, Pretendo could bring back online functionality to those beloved hand held devices. It may however require some device hacks and software installs when it comes around. Check it out yourself at IGN.

What the dang heck are we playing?

Greywolfe: trying islets. i'm worried, a little, because, as "beginner friendly" metroidvanias go, it's ramping up it's difficulty curve pretty quickly. apart from that, i'm starting to put together final decks for marvel's midnight suns, so i can blaze through the plot [because i'm almost done leveling my guy to the maximum level.]

AJ: Recently picked up Tekken 8 and Unicorn Overlord for the PS5 so I'll probably check out one or both of those.

Scrooloose: The galactic war rages on in Helldivers 2, so to do I. Also Forbidden West. Less rage.
