It’s WRUP I Guess

Hey there everyone, it's me, Scroo. It's been a rather bustling few days and I didn't get the opportunity to get a WRUP on the board yesterday.

Happy father's day to all you dads out there. Hopefully you'll all be enjoying some family time or something along those lines. I'm hosting a BBQ for my own family and a couple of family friends. We're going to grill some burgers and chill with some citronella candles because the mosquitos may as well be starting their own airline service this year. Should be a pretty chill day anyway. But enough about that. Let's get to the WRUP.

You may have already heard, Embracer Group, a Swedish conglomerate with titles like a little up and comer called, Tomb Raider, will be laying off a sizeable chunk or its workforce after losing a deal for some two billion dollars. Embracer owns something like a hundred plus studios and has 17,000 people employed. Well, it seems like feeding on game studios like a hump back whale baleen feeding on krill has lead to the inevitable and they have presumably expanded too fast. At least that's how I take it. I'll toss a link from Polygon here so you can see the details, but it sure looks like they just bit off more than they could chew and now a whole lot of actual people will lose their jobs because of it. After all net sales are only up 121% this time. Unacceptable, apparently.

Atari is releasing a new cartridge this year. Well, sort of Atari is sort of releasing a new cartridge. The company isn't really the old Atari you're probably not old enough to remember. The name stuck around but it's a sort of "in spirit only" kind of situation. Through a series of events that stem all the way to 1983 and compiled up to 2009 Atari has undergone various rebrandings and though they're called Atari now, it's actually Infogrames. The link to ArsTechnica explains more fully. In any case the new cartridge is Mr Run and Jump and it's still the old style black plastic cartridge from forty plus years ago. Interestingly this is a title also coming to PC this year, though it's slated to be quite a bit different than this call-back to hammer pants and crimped hair. I say it's sort of releasing because as the linked article explains, it's likely going to be set up as a pre-order run and those who buy will get a cartridge made. Kind of cool in a way actually.

What are we playing this time?

Scrooloose: I finally made it to nightmare difficulty in Diablo 4 and I'm really enjoying the extra activities so far. I'm one who wants to play through all the side quests and explore it all before I move on in something like D4 but I've found out that it's not really necessary here. The map doesn't reset and your progress carries over including all the events and quest lines you have yet to do. The benefits to progressing into nightmare are many and I suggest doing it when you're able and not waiting or feeling the need to complete everything first. There are even further quest lines that open up. It's a good time.

Yoda: Yeah I wish I could keep killing people in Diablo but I've got irl people I need to see before I get sent back to Dallas next weekend

AJ: Not much gaming happening for me this weekend as I'm actually up in Montreal for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. That being said, a Switch was brought along just in case, so I may still be able to squeeze in a little Tears of the Kingdom here and there.
