What's up everyone? I have returned. I've been battling various sickness that has kept me from being entirely coherent and I missed last week all together, sorry for that. Just can't read or type or really even stand up when you're spinning from vertigo. Not a fun time. So far so good though the last few days. I went back to work for the first time in three weeks yesterday. I hope this stuff is all gone. I don't get sick often, but hooo boy when I do... Anyway let's see some WRUP things.
Helldivers 2 has definitely seen it's fair share of controversy with the recent coming and going of the Sony account linking nightmare. Players won the battle against corporate tyranny by doing the only thing they could, review bombing Helldivers 2 on Steam. Of course this is unfair because the developers of HD2 have nothing to do with Sony's decision to make account linking mandatory, but that's how the table was turned. Since then the reviews are changing back, Sony made a statement that we mentioned when it came out, and now maybe even more importantly even some of the countries HD2 was de-listed in have been reinstated for players there. Now it looks like the CEO for Arrowhead is stepping down to take on a different role as CCO (Chief Creative Officer) in order to spend more time with the teams and have more involvement in the games and community all together. Here's the info from PC Gamer.
With the recent release of Ghost of Tsushima on PC also comes the exact same controversy over PSN account linking. So it's like that statement from Sony mentioning they were "...Still learning what's best for PC players..." points to not really learning much at all. The same trick for Helldivers 2 started with lots of bad reviews but sadly this doesn't quite seem to be having the same effect. In fact the reviews on steam stand currently at very positive. This is fine because as with Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Studios, Sucker Punch Productions doesn't have control over Sony and its decisions. Yet with review bombing being basically the only way players can speak out against such a pointless limitation in order to play a PC port, things don't seem all that promising in the way of walking back those types of decisions. For some clarity, the mandatory account linking to PSN affects people who live in countries that have no access to PSN. This is a pretty wide array of places that include over 170 countries. If you live there you can't even play the game since this means no listings there, which in turn means no sales there. Seems counterintuitive for Sony to alienate so many players.
IGN has its hands in a lot of cookie jars and has come out with a bunch of outlets to chew up and shove the soft mushy crumbles into the AI machine. To be fair, I don't really hate IGN, but they're a shadow of their former self. Kind of like us, in a way. This is a list of what's what from The Verge.
What are we playing?
Greywolfe: two more missions left in marvel's midnight suns. counting down the play sessions. I WILL BE FREE AT LAST OH GOD
AJ: I recently picked up Spider-Man 2 for the PS5, as well as a pretty pristine Wolfchild disc for the Sega CD, so I will likely be giving those a go this weekend.
Scrooloose: Pacific Drive and Helldivers 2 for me.
