Good morning on this cold January sunrise, the first of 2022. Here's hoping everyone celebrated safely last night, or like me, just chilled and played some games and stayed away from the crowds. I'm usually pretty boring on new years. Not much of a crowd loving guy. Anyway, here's hoping this year treats us better than these previous two did.
Okay so I'm sorry but much like last week's WRUP I don't have any news to share. I just haven't had my sights on anything and nothing cool is jumping out at me. There's talk of Tesla using Ryzen CPU's soon, but who gives a fuzzy rat's ass about that? The production and shipping shortages are just going to be exacerbated and frankly it doesn't excite me anyway. The rest is mostly rumor mill speculation on what the next generation GPU drops are going to be and whether we'll ever get to purchase them for our own use and that kind of stuff. The one bit of info I saw that piqued some interest was about China banning Steam. China has a pretty strict level of government and have recently made gaming for kids more or less impossible, giving them just three hours a week online to do so. Steam has been a platform there for a good while now but it's not the same as Steam anywhere else. Instead, it's a special Chinese version that only carries titles approved by the government and sanctioned for purchase and those games can't have certain elements in them. This Chinese version of Steam is still active but there haven't been any new titles approved in quite some time and the more general version of Steam is offline and inaccessible there, taken down for good on Christmas day. Here's more from The Gamer
I hate to end it on a bad note but there we have it. All up hill from here right? I still hope you all have a great new years day. Sorry if this was depressing. Hopefully next week I'll have some better things to parrot from around the internet.
In the meantime, what are we playing?
Greywolfe: well, it's old year's eve, so happy new year to everyone who reads this. i finished up cat quest and i'm about to move to final fantasy 3. over the weekends, i'm playing space quest 5. and that about sums up my game playing. [ps: cat quest i is still quite a fun little romp.
AJ: I just acquired the iam8bit limited edition Aladdin and Lion King "Legacy" cartridges for the Genesis and Super Nintendo, respectively (to go along with the 30th Anniversary Mega Man X cart I got last week). So, definitely those, and I don't know what else. Perhaps more Game & Watch goodness. I've been all in on the retro stuff recently, so why stop now? Happy New Year, everyone!
Scrooloose: Warhammer 40k Battlesector is at least as good as XCom and I'm into it. I also plan on some free flight in Project Wingman and some mission based play in Ace Combat 7, which is wildly good and the people who say the story is BS are too closed minded. I find it to be fun.
