WRUP from the dead

You might have noticed that we didn’t have a WRUP last week. That’s because I came back sick from my vacation.

You might have noticed that we didn’t have anything else on the site since last week. That’s because everyone else is dead as well. Or they are playing Deus Ex/No Man’s Sky/any of the other releases. Boy, what a year this has been so far. Thank god we already lost all of our audience at this point, otherwise I would be immensely stressed right now.

Anyway, what is everyone (who’s left) playing over the weekend?

Thomas: Since I’m finally well enough to enjoy playing video games, I’m now finally getting into Deus Ex: MD, which is overall really good (despite a couple of major flaws) and F1 2016, which is, as already mentioned, also great.

Cody: Well I still have yet to pick up Mankind Divided so I hope to remedy that this weekend!

Scroo: I'm not really sure what I'll be playing. Maybe more no man's sky if I have the time. My schedule is pretty packed with question marks and busy days and nights though so who knows...

Andrew: Playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum again for the 3rd or 4th time now. (I seem to have lost count.)

Greywolfe: (still missing)

    Praise the WRUP!

I’m anticipating a weekend of Destiny, Fallout 4 and the Battlefield One beta, with maybe a side of Halo 5 with a friend. In other words, all FPS all the time.

Tonight I’m weathering the remains of tropical storm Hermine and waiting for my chocolate wine to get properly chilled.

are you a longtime bf vet?

I had fun with it, but not as much fun as playing cod in the past ( still a total bf newb despite picking them all up since bfbc). the games are different animals of course.

I struggle to make any impact unless I’m cowering inside inside a tank that someone else is driving who is racking up some ridiculous 30+ k/d.
Magically, nobody seems to attack these guys and I’ll spend the entire round shooting at lone enemy stragglers as we move from capture point to capture point.

on the upside, I’m already leveled up to 15 and so need to drop in for a few more days to get the beta medal.

Ironically if I’m driving the tank, I don’t usually spot the skilled assault guys fast enough to stop them from blowing up the tank quickly or those pesky support guys with AT mines.

if I’m not in a vehicle I usually get torn to shreds after running long distances and then poorly infiltrating the capture point.

and then of course there’s the half dozen other times I’m killed without 10 seconds of exiting the spawn by enemy opponents or sniped.

I’m glad though to have some downtime (or make time for it by disregarding everything, lol) to blow off some time and simply be able to play, in any case. feels good!

Despite owning BF3 and BFBC2 on PC, I’m a total Battlefield noob. I merely own those games because they happened to be included in previous bundles I’ve purchased. I’ve barely put any time at all into BF3 and never even fired up Bad Company.

My interest in the new Battlefront is what pulled me into trying the BF1 beta. After a few days with it, I think I’ve found my groove in being a medic, trying to keep my teammates alive and helping out at capture points. I still would like to play around a bit more with the other classes, just to get a feel for them all.

Vehicles are fun, but controlling them has taken some getting used to for me, especially since I’ve been bouncing around between playing on PC, PS4 and the X1. One interesting point, if you set the Y axis to inverted for flight, it actually isn’t inverted. Not only is that backwards, but the right stick controlling pitch and the left controlling throttle feels exactly backwards to me too. I’ve finally got those worked out. And by happy accident, I discovered on the consoles you can move to a third person view by clicking down on the right stick.

I’m still not as sold on the game as I am Titanfall 2, but I’m starting to appreciate the different style of play with the classes than I’ve seen in Call of Duty, Battlefront, and Titanfall itself.

it feels a bit too much like battlefront to me. Bullets travel rather slowly, movement is still a bit glitchy, classes aren’t really standing out from each other (besides snipers, which are more annoying than ever), and it’s all so chaotic (which might be because of my limited time with the beta, but still).

i don’t know. Happy that they finally included the serverbrowser in-game, always bothered me in 3 and 4, but i’m not really looking forward to the full release

but yeah, making an impact in a 64player game is hard, and thats actually what i enjoy about these games. It’s a really zen shooter experience, in a way.

I hope all of you at joystiq make speedy recoveries.

hope you’re ok out there, Greywolfe. I was thinking of you yesterday as I was raging, trying to figure out why my psn account has no record of me ever having purchased black ops 3 digitally. XD
I guess I am stuck having to re-buy this at some point. or better yet just borrow it if I’m so inclined to play the sp through (the only one I have not completed to date since cod4).
