I’m just coming from a quick Mass Effect: Andromeda session and let me tell you this: I wasn’t wrong last week, but I’m actually starting to enjoy it. It certainly isn’t GOTY material, something every BioWare game should strive for, but it’s nowhere near as bad as the early impressions everyone had made you think. If you want a bit more Mass Effect in your life, don’t. Wait, what? Didn’t I just say it’s not that bad? Yeah, but it’s broken as fuck on PC right now (and slightly on Xbox. No idea about the PS4 version.) The reason why I’m not playing at the moment? Constant CTDs on my system and I am not alone. So while I believe that ME:A will be worth your time eventually, maybe stick to some of the other amazing recently released games for now. Horizon, Zelda, Nier, Nioh,…

So, what will you be playing over the weekend?

Thomas: Despite the intro, I’m still trying to get a smooth(ish) experience out of Mass Effect. Wouldn’t be a PC gamer if CTDs and freezes kept me from gaming. Plus of course some stuff on the Switch. Splatoon 2 beta is right now, maybe I’ll check that out.

Tru: Not much time with fighting for my teaching credential but I did get my hands on Horizon Zero Dawn and have been ADORING it. Best new IP in a very long time. Also got a copy of Mass Effect: Andromeda, not sure I will have time to play it, but I hope to.

Scroo: More NieR: Automata for me pretty much. Still some Shadow of Mordor here and there and our Game Club pick as well.

Cody: Life and Lawn care. Hopefully I'll be able to hop on the mountain in Steep at some point

Andrew: Spending some time revisiting the PSP. Also, more Breath of the Wild.

Wolfe: adventures of pip is done!  [playthroughs 2 + 3.  2 was practice for the lp.  which is the /actual/ reason i've been playing it again.]  i keep talking about playing more mordor and then i never do that, so maybe i'll pick it up again?  :P - i dunno, man.  i've already killed 715293 orcs.  i'm not sure i have the stomach for more, right now.  quest for glory 3 keeps yammering on and on and on and on.  i forgot how much setup that game has before it lets you play.  as for a mind forever voyaging, i've been allowed into 2061, but haven't ventured forth, yet.  going to have consider what to replace pip with, though and i have noooo ideas.  :)

I’m 17 hours in to Mass Effect and I’m loving it. I’ve been playing on PC as well. No crashes to desktop here, but I did get stuck in one loading screen and had to alt-tab out and manually close the window. Initially I had framerate problems with my GTX 970 on high, but after dropping the lighting, shadows, and ambiet occlusion down it’s been much more consistent and playable.

As far as the gameplay and story, I’m loving it. It started as a slow burn, but the longer I play the better it’s endearing itself to me. I’ll be playing this for quite a while.

Besides Andromeda, I’ve been all about Battlefield One with friends.

didn’t play much this weekend. I’m starting to see what at least one review on the internet was talking about when they said that Let It Die hits a huge difficulty curve where the game starts to be “not fun.” This’s where in order to progress in the game, one must spend a lot of time optimizing and engaging in heavy amounts of farming for rare materials in order to upgrade weapons and equipment so that they’re not peashooters. Surprisingly, this spike arrives in the last ~1/8 of the game, as if to artificially extend its length. I guess this is one way to encourage the purchase of 30-day elevator passes (similar to FF15’s online pass).

I’m not sure if it’s as bad as Demon’s Souls, platinum farming (which I heard, is challenging), but yeah….farming.
