Now About That WRUP

Well, hello everyone and here's hoping you're all out of the snow. Here in CA, you may have heard, we're being absolutely smashed by literal tons of the stuff. I had 33 inches after the weather stopped a day or so back. I still have over two feet and the forecast says I may be seeing another eight inches between tonight and tomorrow. I was without power for most of last week so hopefully it holds out through the end of this incoming, smaller storm.

This has been quite an experience. I remember when I was a kid having waist deep snow, but I was also quite a bit shorter at the age of 8 or 10 years. Our infrastructure just isn't built for this much snow accumulation. I had three trees fall across my driveway and it took me several hours to clear them out of the way. There's a lot more work ahead to properly clean up. Many folks are still without power and some are trapped in homes covered in as much as seven feet of snow and are running out of supplies. Emergency workers are helping as much as is humanly possible to evacuate those who need it and bring supplies in for those who don't quite need evacuation. The county has plowed roads, but the plows pile mountains of snow and dirt in people's driveway entrances further trapping them. So unless you're lucky enough to have a tractor, skid steer, front loader or the like, you're going to have to shovel your way out every day. Not everyone is healthy enough to do that. The emergency calls have been through the roof. A big thanks to all the volunteers and friends neighbors willing to help each other out in what has become a pretty tough situation.

Friends of mine have been out of town for a funeral and I've been taking care of their animals, but I can't get up their drive because of fallen trees and feet of snow. Granted my truck is only two wheel drive, but even with chains on I can't make it. So I've been hiking up and down and it takes about 20 minutes to get in by foot. So between keeping my own road free of snow, of limbs and keeping the house warm and dealing with frequent power outages I've also been hiking my friend's road twice a day and going to my daily work as much as possible. Needles to say, I'm exhausted.

So I'm sorry to say that with as busy as I've been I've had no time in any case to keep an eye on tech news or game news at all. So the WRUP today is just me ranting about the recent storms. So if you're affected here in CA, just hang in there. It won't last forever. Stay safe out there.

What are we playing?

Greywolfe: did a four in february and beat five games, which is pretty good. [jolly rover, a short hike, lost ember and chook and sosig were the official four. i finished night in the woods as number five.] - so now, it's back to what i'm referring to as "yorog" [year of the animal] - which is a big spreadsheet of animal-protagonist games that i'm playing for this year as a kind of theme. on that big spreadsheet, i bailed on banners of ruin to do four in february. which means i'm returning to that. [will play it for thirty days. it's a roguelite. so if i don't win at that point, i'm going to consider it a moot point, in that i've seen "a lot of what it has to offer."]

AJ: After acquiring (and enjoying) the Genesis Mini, I decided to shell out for the Genesis Mini 2! So I will most definitely be checking that out this weekend, and I may play some Plague Tale: Requiem as well.

Scrooloose: I'll hopefully be gaming a bit on Sunday providing I have electricity to do so. Expecting even more snow. At this point I'm just looking forward to a day off of working
