AJ’s Picks: The 12 Best Games of 2022 (In Just Under the Wire Edition)

Well, 2023 is drawing to a close and I haven't even released a best games of 2022 list yet. (And you thought last year's was late!) Well, consider that box now officially checked off. It took a long time to get it right. Way longer than it probably should have. It's pretty likely that many out there will still take issue with these choices but, whatever, I'm pretty proud of these picks. All I can do at this point is apologize for the extreme tardiness of this article and promise to do my best to at least release a 2023 list in the first half of next year. But in the meantime, please read on for my selections for the 12 best titles that 2022 had to offer:

Here We Go Again On Our WRUP

Well, good morning. Hopefully everyone had a good Thanksgiving, ate too much, held down the couch and didn't argue too much with relatives who hadn't been around since last year. Mine was great. Lots of food and a sunny day so we ate outside and once the night cooled down we lit the fire pits, had a few beers and ended the night with scotch and cigars. Not too big of a crowd this time around. But that's okay. We had a great time and a ton of laughs. Thanksgiving is of course not bespoke to the US, but we seem to relate our celebration to some form of independence. Not true, the real story is sordid and bleak with no shortage classism and racism etc. But, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the tradition in the way it's evolved over time by just getting together, eating too much turkey for some reason and trying not to murder each other based on our differences in ideals. Let's get to the WRUP. Read more

Here, Take This WRUP

Good morning or whatever time of day it happens to be wherever you are. It's time for yet more WRUP. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day around these parts, nearly 70 and I think I'll take the opportunity to get some more wood cut and split since I sort of fell behind during October thanks to things be extra busy. I also need to blow out this computer because holy smokes it's dusty in there. Winter preparations, house cleaning and general boring-ass chores are the theme for the day. Yay for me. Okay let's look at a PlayStation centric WRUP. Read more

Lords of The Fallen 2023 – Crashing Issues and Potential Fixes

Lords of the Fallen 2 arrived a couple of weeks ago and it's proving to be quite a worthy souls-like with its strategic combat and beautifully built world populated by manic zealots, undead and some truly frightening bosses. I've been enjoying it greatly yet it has opened to a real roller coaster of emotions and mixed reviews. Viewing the Store page on Steam shows a fairly divided community with 59 percent of the 15,000 plus reviews being positive. Stability and performance seem to be the main issues. For myself it's definitely been stability that's been the negative. Let's take a look at this a bit. Read more

This WRUP is Late and My LOTF Save Was Corrupted

Thank goodness I finally finished this deck job I've been working on yesterday. It's taken up way too much of my time and though the end result was a pretty decent pay day it shouldn't take 75 hours to paint deck railings. It was build without a permit by an engineer about 20 years ago an it's a pretty good looking structure, but it's full of lights and switches and wiring so I couldn't disassemble much of it to help my progress. There are metal pickets that weren't allowed to change color with the rest of the structure so they all had to be masked. I had fifteen hours alone just taping. Ridiculous. The lumber was being painted is dimensional so there are lots of little nooks to get in to. And since it's non-permitted it was built without stairs on what is effectively the second story facing downhill on a slope so I also had my 24 foot extension ladder to be able to prep the outer facing sides. But hey, the owners are happy and I think I'll have more work there in the near future. That was more or less the last half of October for me and I'm done whining about it. Let's look at what's going on in actual WRUP land and discuss a seriously game breaking issue for Lords of the Fallen. Read more

Notable New Gaming Releases: Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros Wonder, and More…

Well, the holidays are drawing near and that means it's about time for the final (and oftentimes, biggest) titles of the year to arrive. Case in point, this week saw the release of two, (Marvel) Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros Wonder. The follow-up to 2018's amazing Spider-Man and 2020's spectacular Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2 represents the next logical step in the franchise by allowing you to swap back and forth between the two main characters from both of those previous entries. It also appears to have upped the ante by bringing in popular comics villains Kraven the Hunter and Venom (undoubtedly among others).

Meanwhile, Super Mario Bros Wonder appears to be bringing the same style of charming family-friendly 4-person multiplayer fun that 2013's outstanding Super Mario 3D World offered, but in a uniquely new, yet tried and true 2D setting. No matter which console you own, a Switch or a PS5 (or both), it seems like you've got something new you're going to want to try out. And for those without either, read on for a list of new hotness for you to play too.

Also out in the last 12 weeks, a new Sonic the Hedgehog title that seems to be not entirely unlike the new Super Mario Bros game; the first new Forza Motorsport title in 6 years, and a follow-up to the pretty groovy 2019 strategy title, Wargroove. Be greater. Together. Jump past the break to see more new releases from the last 84 days.
