Far Cry: Primal is not Blood Dragon 2

You’ve probably already heard news about FC: Primal yesterday, but just in case you haven’t: The Guys behind Uplay announced Primal, a new spin-off from the main series, set in the Stone-Age, around 10.000 BC. This means no Dinos, but a good amount of woolly mammoths and saber-toothed cats. But that’s not where the differences to Blood Dragon end.

Ubisoft now confirmed that this is actually a fully priced, aka. $60/70 title, featuring all the stuff we know from Far Cry 4, minus co-op, but with a pre-historic spin. It also got revealed that the game is set in the fictitious Oros region, somewhere in North America, and you are the last survivor of your hunting party. Animals seem to play a bigger role this time around, both in actual size and gameplay-wise, but human enemies will return as well.
Ubisoft Montreal, who already made all the previous non-Crytek Far Crys, is again at the helm, but with help from their Kiev, Shanghai and Toronto based studios. Four Studios for one game? Yeah, sounds about right.
Release will be February 23rd, 2016.

Honestly, I couldn’t care less. It’s Ubi-Cry, but with a different skin, no charismatic antagonist and (hopefully) no fully automatic weapons . Still, some people are excited, Cody *cough*, so have your fun with it. I’ll instead wait for Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Well, I don’t know about this yet really. On the one hand I enjoyed the Farcry series, never did play 4 but meh it’s just 3. Cody and I were talking about it a bit last night during some Rocket League matches and both of us like the idea of the whole primal universe, and the fact that it –could be– pretty different from the FarCry 3 and 4 twins. My own expectation is that there will mostly be varying stages of hunting missions and various tribal attacks. But who knows, right? It could be really cool, I’ll pay attention to it for sure.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe as Ubi releases more info it will become more interesting.

I can’t say I’m super excited for it, but I’ll most likely end up picking it up during a holiday sale after it’s release just based on the trailer.

I’m beyond giving Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt. They could release Valiant Hearts 2, and i would expect the same game only with a cat instead of a dog.
Ok, in reality there is a chance that it will be a fresh experience, mostly based around the fact that you don’t have cars and guns, but I highly doubt it.

I’m not heavily invested in the Far Cry franchise, having only played 3 and Blood Dragon, but I’m much more interested in this than I am grabbing Far Cry 4. Just maintain the period correct weapons and please don’t let anyone speak a modern intelligible language.
