Stuff I’m Looking Forward To

So I'm sitting here drinking a locally brewed Whisky Barrel Brown Ale thinking to myself about how I'm excited for some new games that are coming to PC soon; and just some games I don't have yet that are out already. I figured -Hey I'll write about that so we have something more than WRUP articles.

A couple of titles I really want to hurry up and get their asses on my computer are actually coming very soon. Like the next couple of weeks soon and yeah... I'm a little giddy about it.

So first on that list is: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

When this title was rebooted back in 2014 I was pretty wide-eyed about it and luckily it turned out to be just as cool as it looked like it was going to be in the ads. Game play was smooth and the writers did a nice job at making a pretty heavy story for the protagonist to run through. Old school meeting the new school done right is how I remember feeling when I played. Shortly thereafter a stand alone title Wolfenstein: The Old Blood came about and I grabbed it on sale only to find that it wasn't quite as engaging and its optimization was less than desireable.

So far what I'm seeing about The New Colossus looks great. This one is going to take place in the 1960's U.S. where B.J. Blazkowicz, our protagonist, is tasked with once again dual wielding big guns to take down Nazis left and right. He'll do it with some help from the American resistance members he meets and I'm almost positive that we'll see some reuse of some elements from The New Order. I'm sure we'll have to choose which our friends lives and which one dies and I'm sure we'll see the same cliches in the overall writing, But you know -I liked all that stuff. Here's a trailer to whet your whistle.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, is set to drop on October 27th and is a typical $59.99

Next Up - Spintires: Mudrunner

Spintires, is a physics based off road driving game where players take control of Soviet era vehicles in the Russian wilderness in order to complete tasks in huge maps filled with deep mud, flowing rivers and dense forests. This one was a cult hit and unfortunately I never played it. I have however broken a sacred rule and pre-purchased a copy of Mudrunner.

Why would you do that if you had never played the first game? You may be asking. Well, first off there are no loot boxes! This is an independent developer (Saber Interactive) who have made their own engine for these games and that's rad. Mudrunner will introduce more vehicles and all of them are available through playing the game and that's also rad. Mod support will be available on day one so there are sure to be loads of player made vehicles as well. Maps are pretty huge and players can choose their own routes to complete challenges by themselves or with friends. Every object in this game has a physics model. Water will flow and push your vehicles and can damage your engine etc, mud will cake up on your tires and cause all kinds of havoc, trees, grass, brush, reeds etc will all affect your ability to drive in different ways.

I'm super excited to play this and we at Twinstiq don't usually condone this kind if thing, but the pre-purchase takes 10% off your buy in. I can't wait to play and it'll be available on the 31st of October. The cost? $29.99 unless you want a physical copy on console where it seems to be $39.99 for some reason. Anyway, check this out if you're interested in seeing it in action.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr

Neocore Games have both developed and published this awesome looking ARPG set in the incredibly deep and hyper violent Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Inquisitor Martyr is already available via early access and may prove to be one of the rare cases where that system works out for the best. That said, I won't buy it until it's fully released and I suggest you wait as well. So far this title is looking great and hopefully it will continue its development and make its way to my hard drive.

What we have here is a pretty typical isometric ARPG with some pretty cool innovations. The normal skill trees and class building are there but... Star systems are persistent and completely open world. This means players discovering new worlds will unlock those worlds for others to enjoy as well. Even allowing people to undertake parts of each others  missions leading to game wide events. Occasionally a new "season" of play will be released that bring new challenges, missions, enemies and worlds. Again I say - Rad.

This being Early Access means we have no actual release date, but I'm looking forward to it and what I'm seeing is looking pretty solid. The only downsides are that this is thus far going to be an always online game and it will require an account via Neocore. Blegh. But maybe that will change by release. Right now the price is set $49.99

Take a look here at the official site for info on the game's progress and a trailer or two.

Darksiders III

Alright well this one has me on edge. If you guys read either of my Darksiders reviews You know I'm into it. Like -into it. The previous titles, developed by Nordic Games, put players in the role of one of the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse. First was War, Next was Death. Then the series was put on hold while THQ took hold and made changes. Now though Darksiders III is back in development by Gunfire Games and it's looking pretty cool.

This time we players will be placed in the role of Fury, the whip wielding badass lady Horseman who's story we've yet to hear much about. Presumably she'll be looking for a way to absolve her brother War of guilt and join Death on a path to overthrow the Charred Council.

Guys I love Darksiders, it's game play is button mashing fun mixed with skill and super cool post apocalyptic goodness. I haven't seen much info on this one of late. I've got an article on the site here where I had updates flowing in as I came upon them. Hopefully I'll be adding to it sooner than later.

No release date yet or price that I'm aware of, but I'll almost certainly be buying it when it comes around.

Things I Don't Have Yet, But Want - Like Real Bad

Battle Chasers: Nightwar

Turn based RPG game play in a JRPG format makes Battle Chasers looks pretty good to me. THQ Nordic also has a hand in publishing this one and what's super cool is that Battle Chasers itself is adapted from a comic series created by Darksiders art director, Joe Madureira.

I've been reading about this game being a little grindy, but I don't really care. I happen to feel that some grinding is okay as long as it isn't super boring. Airship Syndicate is the developer here and it seems like they've made a pretty intriguing JRPG styled title. I have to admit I haven't researched this game all that much yet but what I've seen looks pretty damn engaging. The art work and music alone seem to be worth looking at in depth. Check out the trailer here at their site.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar was released on October 3rd for $29.99 and I'm probably going to pick it up soon actually.

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War

Alright I know there's a ton or two of controversy over Shadow of War but that doesn't stop it from being a great game. Lucky for us who are on the fence about buying from WB like, ever again, sales of this particular title have been lower than expected. That means discounts are probably due soon, and we can make this purchase without feeling like super douches. Well maybe.

Shadow of Mordor was a beautiful game with a cool combat system that stems from way back in the Spiderman days on Game Cube. Now with the newest iteration it resembles more of an Assassin's Creed kind of play style but doesn't suck.

Actually, except for all this loot box nonsense, in your face advertisement and player manipulation blah blah etc, if you can resolve yourself to buy the base game you're probably going to be happy with it. It's been noted that the ripped out elements sold shamelessly as DLC are very noticeable and in fact hard to get away from during your play. WB has plastered their store all over the face of every load screen and splash screen so prepare for that. Again though, sales should be showing up before too long and that might mean we can get the equivilent of the completely ridiculous "gold" edition of the game for a modicum of it's original price. I'll be waiting WB, I'll be waiting. The base game as it stands now is $59.99.

You'll have to go through an age verification to see more info but here's the official site. I'm betting you've probably already seen the ads anyway since WB has just been shoving it in YouTube spots for months now.

Elex

This is a third person ARPG set a post apocalyptic environment where sci-fi and fantasy meet in a clash of swords and magic & lasers and robots. Elex is supposed to  take place in a very large seamless world which sounds super cool to me. Think: Fallout and Skyrim meets Destiny. At least it seems that way to me, I haven't played yet.

Piranha Bytes developed Elex and THQ Nordic has published it. No multiplayer here and actually I feel that's a good thing. Players will be tasked with pretty typical world exploration and combat of mutants and otherwise. It's a seemingly run of the mill open world game but it looks pretty good and I think I want to snap it up.

Elex will run you $49.99 and was only released October 17th so it's pretty new still at the time of this writing. Here's a launch trailer on the ol' YouTubes

Okay I Could Keep Going...

...But I'm not going to. I just figured I'd write a quick little blurb on some stuff I have my eye on and now almost three hours later I'm here thinking I should probably stop writing. I've been out of beer for quite a while and I have since made a meat loaf and put it in the oven. Anyway guys, thanks for checking this out. Hopefully you've found something there that you may also be interested in. Let me know what if anything you're looking forward to as well. I'll also add here that Vermintide 2 has my ears perked really high. But we're probably a good six months out on that so I'll just have to wait on more info there.

I’ve got my eye on Elex also, and watched a little of it on Twitch. It comes across to me as a slighly less polished cross between the Witcher and Fallout series. Shadow of War and Wolfenstein 2 are also both pretty high on my list of wants. And I have to admit I’m looking forward to Battlefront 2. I have a group of friends on the X1 who all plan to grab it on day one. The only other thing that immediately springs to mind for a launch day purchase is DOOM VFR on the PSVR.

Well I mean Battelfront 2 looks like it’s going to be a fun game. It’s the same as Shadow of War though in that you’ve just got resolve yourself to not buy loot boxes. Unfortunately with Battlefront it’s almost going to be necessity in order to progress your character.
