New PlayStation Store Releases: Galak-Z

I had to skip the New PlayStation Store Releases update last week due to the big site switch-over. So, this week I will be combining them all into one super update. The game I am most interested in from the last fortnight would probably have to be Galak-Z. Brought to you by 17-BIT (the creators of Skulls of the Shogun), Galak-Z is a punishing, procedurally generated space shooter with an '80s anime aesthetic. How freaking cool does that sound?!

Also out this/last week, Legend of Kay is making the rounds, along with N++, and a Cross Buy game about a speeding box. Take a week off and then lose your shit over something awesome-sounding, then proceed further to see more new releases.

A look at “Satoru Iwata’s Life Story” by George Weidman

Satoru Iwata died almost a month ago, and while we tried to talk about it on some occasions, I’ve never been quite happy with the way we did. I didn’t grow up with a Nintendo. My first Nintendo home console was actually the Wii. I knew him and his work mostly from those lovely Nintendo Direct conferences, but those never painted the whole picture, especially his roots and motivations. Read more

New Steam Store Releases: Legend of Kay

10-year-old PlayStation 2 platformer Legend of Kay has come to the Steam Store this week. Nordic Games has rereleased the game for modern platforms as a remastered anniversary edition. For those unaware, Legend of Kay is a martial arts themed action adventure game that takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals.

Also out this week, the video game adaptation of a terrible 49-year-old B movie (developed by the same studio that made Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures), a Steam port of a 15-year-old PlayStation 1/PC World War I game in which anthropomorphic pigs take turns battling it out, and a brand-new shoot 'em up game with a puzzle twist. Everything old is new again. Proceed further to see more of this week's new releases. Read more

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Happy Birthday Kirby!

Today was Kirby's 23rd birthday (in North America, anyways). Nintendo is marking the occasion this week with a triple shot of Kirby titles. First up is Kirby 64 for the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console. Next, there's Kirby: Squeak Squad for the Nintendo DS Virtual Console. And, finally, Kirby's Return to Dream Land for the Wii U Wii (try saying that three times fast) Virtual Console.

Also out this week, the Wii U game of the year edition of Badland, and a new cross buy game from the creators of Mutant Mudds. Ingest your enemies to gain their strength, celebrate your 23rd birthday, then jump past the break to view this list of new releases. Read more

New Steam Store Releases: Tembo the Badass Elephant

Tembo the Badass Elephant is this week's highlight on the Steam Store. As mentioned earlier this week on the New PlayStation Store Releases, Tembo the Badass Elephant is a surprising new multiplatform property from long-time Nintendo developer Game Freak. Best known for their Nintendo-owned multimedia juggernaut, Pokemon, Game Freak has occasionally made games for other systems in the past. This, however, marks the first time that they have released a game simultaneously on multiple non-Nintendo platforms. The question is, will this be a one-time only affair or should gamers expect to be able to have more ways to play their great games in the future? Only time (and perhaps the success of Tembo) will tell.

Also out this week, an incredibly Japanesey shoot 'em up from a Swiss development studio (incredibly), a Bulgarian-made multiplayer demon hunting action RPG, and a puzzle platformer with an interesting mirror mechanic (origins uncertain). Break from tradition by going multiplatform, then jump past the break to see more of this week's new releases.

  • Tembo the Badass Elephant (Game Freak, Single-player, $14.99) (Controller Support, Steam Achievements)
  • Nandeyanen (Tchagata Games, Single-player, $1.99) (Controller Support)
  • Victor Vran (Haemimont Games, Single & Multi-player, $19.99) (Controller Support, Steam Achievements)
  • Retsnom (Somi, Single-player, $4.99) (Controller Support, Steam Achievements)
  • Terra Nova (Looking Glass Studios, Single-player, $5.99)
  • Five Nights at Freddy's 4 (Scott Cawthon, Single-player, $7.99)
  • Way of the Samurai 4 (Acquire, Single-player, $24.99) (Controller Support, Steam Achievements)
  • Olympia Rising (Paleozoic, Single-player, $4.99) (Controller Support)
  • Feist (Finji, Single-player, $14.99) (Controller Support, Steam Achievements)

Streets of Rage 2 arrives on the 3DS this week! In 3D, no less! The exquisite second installment to one of the greatest beat 'em up series of all time, Streets of Rage 2 is truly a must buy. I don't care if you've never played it, never heard of it, or already own a copy of every version ever released. I insist that you go buy this right now! If you still require a bit of persuasion, you can check out this glowing tribute that our own Jye Cauffle put up, a few months back.

Also out this week, The Binding of Isaac finally makes it's way to Nintendo platforms (after much delay and controversy), a decade old PlayStation 2 platformer gets a special anniversary Wii U remaster, and another fun DS game hits the Wii U Virtual Console. Beat street punks to a pulp with your bare knuckles (See what I did there?), then jump past the break to peruse this fine list of new releases.

New PlayStation Store Releases: Hatoful F1

F1 2015 has pulled up to the PlayStation 4 this week (presumably arriving in a more playable condition than it did on Steam). The 2015 release of the yearly series from Codemasters is the first to appear on PS4 and Xbox One, and is running on a newly updated version of their EGO racing engine. You can expect this to mean better graphics and physics, this time around. However, the rumor is that F1 2015 is also lacking certain popular features that were prevalent in past year's games. So, take that as you will and perhaps do a little bit of research before deciding whether or not this one is the right game for you.

Also out this week, indie hit Journey (newly available on PS4, in case you missed it the first time or just needed another fix), Tembo the Badass Elephant (a surprising new platformer property from long-time Nintendo dev, and Pokemon creator, Game Freak), and Hatoful Boyfriend, the crazy popular Japanese pigeon high school dating sim/visual novel that started out as an April Fools joke. Do your homework, up your racing game, and then fly past the break to see more of this week's new releases.

New PlayStation Store Releases: God of War PS4

God of War has come to the PlayStation 4 this week with the release of a remastered version of the PlayStation 3 classic, God of War III. I'm not exactly sure why Sony decided to port over III, and not Ascension, but I'm sure the fans will gladly take whatever they can get. Also out this week, the first EA PGA golf game in over 15 years not to feature Tiger Woods in the title. To give you an idea of how long it's been, PGA Tour 98 was released on the PlayStation 1 and Sega Saturn! Also, also out this week, a Prototype collection, a Godzilla game, and a pair of decent indie games. Murder the gods in an unspeakable fashion, then jump past the break to see more of this week's new releases.

New PlayStation Store Releases: “I’m Batman!”

This week, I've got three words for you: Batman. Arkham. Knight. Whilst Steam users seem to be having their fair share of issues with the game, PS4 players everywhere are sitting pretty (in their batmobiles) right now. Sorry PC crowd, it seems that you are still an afterthought to some of the bigger publishers out there. As if getting the best version (currently) of the most anticipated game of the year wasn't enough, PlayStation fans also have access to a few other exciting games today. These include the new, updated version of Devil May Cry 4 (which ironically happens to feature a Dark Knight mode that is unrelated to Batman), a new jet ski game by the makers of Hydro Thunder Hurricane, a port of the excellent WayForward platformer, Shantae: Risky's Revenge, and finally, a true PlayStation 2 classic, Suikoden III. Become vengeance, become the night, then jump past the break to see this list of new releases.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Holy MOTHER!

At long last, Mother 1, or "EarthBound Beginnings" (as the localized version was apparently retitled), has been released outside of Japan! Twenty years after giving us the Super Nintendo sequel, Nintendo has seen fit to grant the numerous requests from fans by finally letting us have the NES original (by means of the Wii U Virtual Console). Between this game, the Final Fantasy 7 remake, and the Shenmue III Kickstarter, I'm starting to worry that the end times may be upon us. Better go download this quick and start playing before the seas begin to boil! But wait, there's more! As if one awesome VC release wasn't enough, act now and you can also get Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, absolutely *free! (*After paying a one-time purchasing and handling charge of $7.99.) Unfortunately, that's about all there is this week. But what a week it's been! Wait 20 years for your pleas to be heard, then jump past the break to see this list of new releases.
