New Nintendo eShop Releases: Paper Mario

It's a bit of a sparse one again this week. But it doesn't matter because Paper Mario! Yes, that's right. Paper Mario, the original turn-based Mario RPG with a papery twist is now available on the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console! Oh, happy day!

In case you were wondering, the other releases this week consist of a new shmup for the 3DS and yet ANOTHER horse owning sim. Seriously. There are a ton of them now. Just do a search for "horse" on the Nintendo games pages and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Anywho, go make some paper horses, wait for your turn, and then jump past the break to see the complete list of new releases.

Poll: How Are Those New Consoles Working Out For You?

I've recently been playing a ton of Bloodborne, and decided to check out Demon's Souls and Dark Souls on the PlayStation 3 to see if I could now wrap my head around them. Boy, those visuals are hard to go back to. The transition to the current state of game visuals must have been so gradual that I didn't notice how far we've come. The first batch of games on new systems were cross-generation, and there are a lot of HD remakes, all of these not fully exploiting the new systems.

Sure, the Souls games might not look as good as the cream of the crop like The Last of Us, Witcher 2, Uncharted 3, or Halo 4. These four games were released in the latter half of the previous generation, and we're at about one and a half years in the current cycle and already seeing something as amazing as Bloodborne. I can't imagine what we'll see a couple of years from now when developers really know how to get the most out of the new hardware. What do you think?

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart DS races onto the Wii U Nintendo DS Virtual Console this week. And that's about all there is, game wise. It's a bit of a sparse one, this week, but Mario Kart DS is a nice addition. Games aside, there are some interesting dlc releases this week. Smash Bros fans will finally be able to get their hands on Mewtwo, starting April 28th. Those who are looking for even more Mario Kart action can download the Animal Crossing pack (and Dry Bowser) for Mario Kart 8 now.

That should be enough content to get us by until next week. In case it's not, there are two other games out this week. One is a railroad simulator and the other is a Minecraft clone. For more information, go grab an item box, toss some red shells, and then hop-slide past the break to see the complete list of new releases.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Nintendo Direct

In case you missed the Nintendo Direct live stream, you can watch the Xenoblade Chronicles X footage that was broadcast right here.
Apparently the game's world will be open for exploration right from the beginning, the only thing preventing progress in each area is whether you can survive. The five continents you can access are Primordia, a vast open grassland, Noctilum, a watery jungle, Oblivia, a giant desert, Sylvalum, a rocky arctic valley, and Cauldros, a molten fire pit with hidden ancient constructs.

It sounds like you play the role of a mercenary task force, primarily seeking "Lifeholds," which harbor refugees from the White Whale, one of the few ark ships to survive an attack on Earth. You'll also take on missions from corporations and private citizens.

The game is currently scheduled for release in 2015, exclusively on the Wii U.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: DK! Donkey Kong Is Here!

"He's back again, so listen up dudes.
If you know the words, you can join in too.
Put your hands together, if you want to clap,
As we take you through this monkey rap..."
Okay, that's enough of that. Joining Mario 64 on the Wii U Nintendo 64 Virtual Console this week is Donkey Kong 64! So, if you happen to like gorillas named Kong, or virtual bananas, or terrible, terrible rap songs, I would recommend giving it a try. Also out this week is 3D Fantasy Zone II! Now the only question is, would I rather play a great classic game on my Wii U or my 3DS? Decisions, decisions. While I'm busy deciding, feel free to take yourself through the complete list of new releases after the jump.

Street Fighter Assets found in Super Smash Bros Patch

Intrepid hackers at The Cutting Room Floor have found Ryu's stage theme and end-of-battle music from Street Fighter II in Super Smash Bros for the 3DS. Could this signal an upcoming addition to the roster, or just a special stage add-on?
Capcom has already leant characters and stages to Super Smash Bros, so it's not outside the realm of the imagination that more might be coming. How do you think a Street Fighter character would work in such a game? Let us know!

Monster Hunter Stories is a New 3DS RPG

Coming up on the 10th anniversary of the Monster Hunter franchise, Capcom has announced Monster Hunter Stories, a new 3DS story-focused RPG.
Capcom is exploring new territory for the series and is focusing on telling a story in this spinoff. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto gives us the lowdown.

"While staying true to the world of Monster Hunter, and a story that can only be told through an RPG, we’d like to pack it with fun and enjoyment that we can’t even begin to describe with words"

This might be the game that has the potential to establish a broader audience for the niche series.
