Steam Greenlight: Football Tactics

Remember Blitzball in Final Fantasy X? How I loved that. It was actually the only reason why I got a copy of the remastered edition on my Vita. Here’s an idea Squenix: Instead of giving us another loveless port of a previously released title, make a standalone Blitzball game. Until you do that, I will have to get my turn-based sports fix from somewhere else, like the “newly” announced “Football Tactics” from Creoteam.
Disclaimer: It’s actually an iOS port with an “improved single player campaign”. Don’t like them? Don’t click read more. I wouldn’t blame you.

To be honest, you won’t find much Blitzball in this. From the looks of it, it’s more like a very basic version of Blood Bowl, minus the blood and using the European definition of football. (Soccer, you uncultured brutes. You know, the sport where you actually use your feet to move the ball)
But take a look at it yourself:

Like Blood Bowl and Blitzball, the game will have certain managing aspects, like buying and selling players, hiring assistants, upgrading the stadium, earning experience and learning new skills. The team behind it, which previously released the shooter Collapse, also intends to add Steam Workshop support, which should make up for the missing licenses. BUT a word of warning to them: EA still owns the rights to most teams and leagues, and they have shut down sites that offered real life data mods for non-EA games in the past.

The game is now on Steam Greenlight, so if you are interested, make sure to vote for it.

New Nintendo eShop Releases: Separation Anxiety

This week's set of eShop games marks the release of the first (and to date, only) New Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. While the New 3DS isn't the first instance of Nintendo choosing to introduce a 1.5 upgrade version to an existing hardware line (see the Nintendo DSi), Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be the first Nintendo published retail release that is exclusive to an upgraded system. There weren't any for the DSi.

There are sure to be fans clamoring for the game. Likewise, there are certainly Nintendo fans who are excited about the new upgrades and features that the New 3DS offers. But personally, I have to question Nintendo's wisdom in regard to separating their userbase with this release. I can't imagine that sales of this game will be that high. Far fewer people own the New 3DS than the original and XL models. Moreover, the very existence of the New 3DS and its own exclusive game(s) can only lead to further market confusion and animosity from uninformed consumers.

It just seems ill-advised to have made this game an exclusive when they could have just as easily made it playable on all 3DS systems. After all, Nintendo has already released 3DS games that took advantage of the New 3DS features but were still universally playable. But the decision is made, the die is cast, and now I suppose only time (and sales) will tell. In any case, Xenoblade Chronicles is but one of several new games this week. Joining last week's initial Wii U Nintendo DS Virtual Console release is WarioWare: Touched! and Yoshi Touch & Go. Head past the break to be reunited with the complete list of new releases.

[UPDATE] Deus Ex: Can’t Kill Leaks

Update: Pre-orders are now live on the official site, although the site seems to be down at the time of writing. Announcement trailer included after the break.

F… YEAH! It’s as good as confirmed, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming.

After some rumors and supposed leaks, GameInformer now went public with information on their May issue. Prominently featured on the cover is Adam Jensen and it will feature a “12-page look at Deus Ex: Mankind Divided”.

What we know so far:

  • The game will be set two years after Human Revolution, you will again play the guy with the coolest sunglasses in video games, Adam Jensen, who seems to take on a double agent role. Your main employer will be a government sponsored task force, but you also work for a covert organization called the Juggernaut Collective.
  • The original release of DE:HR did receive quite a bit of criticism for the way it handled boss encounters. Mankind Divided supposedly allows you to take on every boss in multiple ways.
  • There will be no save game transfer from Human Revolution and its different endings will not influence the setup of this game.
  • Square Enix wants to explore the backstory of the original game, so expect many cross references to events Deus Ex 1 talked about. (Maybe now is the time to replay the original? Ooooh, this gives me an idea)
  • One of the missions takes place in a city that is based on the infamous Kowloon Walled City
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One

Five Nights at Freddy’s scaring at a theatre near you!

"Hi!" "Hello?" That eerie childlike voice calls into the dark room. You check the next camera, nothings there, you can breathe for a moment. Suddenly, you're alarms start going off, you rush around the office trying to lock the air vents, doing whatever you can, but you know it's too late. You hear a scream in terror as it goes to black.

Scary Right?

For those of you that own Five Night's at Freddy's or any of its sequels you'll know how difficult it was that first time trying the game, and probably remember the girlish screams that came out of you as well. Well, I hate to tell you this, but Warner Bros. has officially picked up the rights to Five Nights at Freddy's and will soon be turning into a major motion picture.

According to TIME, the adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, who has been the producer other horror flicks such as 'The Ring',  'Quarantine', and 'The Women In Black'. So we can only hope this will be an, on the edge of your seat, with men screaming like little girls type of movie. No idea on the movies actual release date, and there has been no word on who will be writing or directing the feature length film, but it seems that the game drew enough attention and hopefully will fulfill those who enjoy the horror genre.

I'll keep you guys posted as more details come up. Until then, please enjoy this fantastic Let's Play of Gavin and Michael screaming like girls.

New PlayStation Store Releases: Dark Souls II Deluxe Now Dealing Death On PS4

PlayStation 4 devotees determined to double down on a decidedly distinct brand of From Software discipline can delight in the digital delivery of the newly re-distributed definitive edition of Dark Souls "deux" (dropping this very day). Besides the bleak older brother of Bloodborne, bearers of the PS4 can also benefit by re-buying the just-a-bit brighter and basically brilliant Bastion. Be sure to bring yourself beyond the break in order to better view the entire batch of new releases.

3DS not smart enough for Professor Layton?

Fan of the Layton games and/or Fantasy Life? I hope you own a smartphone (of course you do, who doesn’t by now?).
Level-5 announced during their “Vision” event, that both Fantasy Life 2 and Professor Layton 7 will be coming out for Android and iOS, but no mentions about 3DS versions.

Fantasy Life 2 will look pretty much like the first one (so processing power shouldn’t be the reason for the switch), offer 12 “lives” (or jobs) and has a stronger focus on building your city. Japan release will be this summer, no word yet on other regions.
Layton 7, which doesn’t come with a Professor prefix, is pretty much a mystery still. There was a confusing video of a dog running around in a city and a screenshot of a card game.

Especially the Layton series was a staple of Nintendo’s handhelds and originally announced for the 3DS. CEO Akihiro Hino is also quoted saying, that he would like to bring Layton 7 to the Wii U.
So what could have led to that change? Could it have to do with the Ninteno NX? Is Level-5 as pissed about that stupid C-Nob as I am? Are they supporting the YouTubers struggle against Nintendo’s copyright claims? Will those games now be f2p?
Probably not (though microtransactions are now pretty much guaranteed), but for the fun of it: Write your own conspiracy theories in the comments.

Bloodborne Bug Binds Bosses

Picture

For whatever reason, it appears that bosses in Bloodborne exhibit heavily restricted move sets, almost handicapping them completely in some cases. Read on for exploit details.
If you leave Bloodborne running for around 12 hours or more, even in rest mode, an alleged memory leak will trigger heavily restricted bosses. Redditor Meatballz noticed the bug and posted videos online comparing the different boss behavior.

PS4 Mortal Kombat X To Support PS3 Arcade Sticks

In their March 19th Twitch broadcast, NetherRealm Studios revealed that the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of Mortal Kombat X will support at least two of the older PlayStation 3 arcade sticks (watch at 38:30 and 46:15). Only the Mortal Kombat 9 Fight Stick (shown above) and the Injustice Fight Stick were specifically mentioned in the video but others may be supported as well. No further details were provided, however it was stated that "more information would come out about that later".
While there aren't currently any games on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 that support last generation arcade sticks, this is the second time a developer has mentioned the feature as being planned for an upcoming PS4 title. Back in October, Polygon reported that Lab Zero Games was working on implementing PS3 arcade stick support for the PS4 version of Skullgirls. That game should be launching in the near future as well. As of yet, there has been no word about a similar feature coming to the Xbox One version of Mortal Kombat X or Skullgirls.
