If It Looks Like A WRUP…

Hello everyone on a strangely cool July morning. Welcome to the WRUP once again. It's that time again. The summer Olympics have started and yeah I know it's an incredibly corrupt organization that has evolved over the decades to push people out of their homes and cost hosting cities and countries to pay extortionate amounts of money to build athletic facilities to be used for a very short time, but I do really love watching the games. Whether it's winter or summer. The opening ceremony was yesterday and it was really something to see. No stadium for the athletes to walk into, instead it was a river boat procession down the Seine with performances and celebrations happening all around. There was even a bit of metal opera performed by Gojira involving some pyrotechnics and theatrical set pieces. It ended at the Eiffel Tower with an epic laser show and the Olympic flame was lit on an old style dirigible balloon in the place where the first hot air balloon flight ever took place. The whole thing was amazing to watch and I look forward to seeing the games over the next 16 days.

Okay let's look at the WRUP

Diablo 4 is something Whoopi Goldberg likes. During its release last year Whoopi had complained that she purchased the ARPG and wasn't able to play it because she has Mac and not a Windows PC or console that would have been compatible. As a long time fan of Diablo she was somewhat upset that there was no Mac version and she wanted a refund. Well, she got her refund for sure but recently she was also presented with the "Key to Hell" fro Blizzard, which she accepted. Here's the scoop from IGN

Helldivers 2 is finally about ready to release a big free update. Or so it seems anyway. August should see the release and it will add new enemies including the feared impalers, brood commanders and a new type of charger. There's also a new biome coming as well as an extra difficulty tier along with new mission objectives. Presumably there will also be a list of balance changes as usual. This update could get me playing again. PC Gamer has more

That's it for this week. Stay cool out there and enjoy your weekend.

What are we playing?

Greywolfe: making my way through pokemon tcg.  got a couple of clubs left to go and then it's the endgame.  it's been pretty relaxed and i'm glad i tried it again.  i have also FALLEN into balatro.  bought it last week.  i've got 37 hours in it already.  it's ridiculous.  i don't normally like roguelites, but i think it helps that this one isn't about a character with rpg goals.  it's just poker hands and that makes it easier to divorce the "death" of the character from the frustrating loop that you have to go through in every roguelite like this.  it doesn't hurt that the runs are short and it's VERY clear when you're going to die.  [ie:  if you haven't got a plan by about the fourth boss or so, you're likely going to die unless something changes VERY quickly.]

Scrooloose: I'm currently playing Phoenix Point. I had an inclination to play something turn based and tactical. I decided not to go to XCom because it's so stressful, but after playing Phoenix Point I'm starting to feel it may be more stressful because it adds factions and trading and special missions etc.
